Why is accommodation so pricey in the UK?

Additional Details
Yes I realize it is pricey for us but I was thinking along the the lines of the tourist industry. We can get cheap accommodation abroad but not here.

Everything is expensive in rip off Britain.

Tax on this tax on that. Taxed to death.

Because thats the way the governments have allowed it to become. Both Labour and Tory. They don't realise we aren't all able to buy and private rents are not in comparison with our wages.

Simply because this is rip off Britain. Pure and simple. We holidayed here 2 years ago for the first time in years. Never again. We could have had a Caribbean cruise for the same amount of money we spent for two weeks here. xxx

The exchange rate of your dollar or rather pund would have a good deal to do with why it is cheaper elsewhere. Try travelling on an Aussie dollar to the UK and Continental Europe. I doubt you will be complaining then.

Our G'men need to rip off tourists as well as those that live here!

Because most of the population of Chelsea Harbour and Peterboro' consider the pound to be of commensurate value with the rouble and the zloty. Everything's gone 'belly up', the 'lunatics' have taken over 'the asylum', the ignorant wave their PC banners (just like Senator McCarthy's "there's a Red under the bed" b/s - until he was put firmly in his place) law and order has been replaced by Terms and Conditions and Rules and Regulations, and, there shall be a 'rupture.'

pareconda
Unlike in the US, there is a huge amount of competition for land and property in the UK as a consquence of it being a small island. And remember, also, the strength of the British pound against the US dollar.

a hotel near me, charges £35 per night, dont think thats dear, compared to london £200-350 per night, many of their hotels are grotty looking

**1066**
Basically its because we have an enormous population for the size of the country, land is very expensive.

Everything's gone up in price in the UK. Housing, rent, everything. It's something to do with the European Union and immigration. There's not enough houses for people thus housing has increased in price. And if housing increases, accommodation becomes very pricey. I tried to live there three times and failed!

gribela
Because we're a wealthy country.
