You are generalising. I work in a little supermarket in Cornwall, and I have lots of Scottish customers, who live in the area.
I have always gotten on with them, and don't see them as being any different from any of my other customers, (in fact one has become a very close friend.)
I have never heard any of my Scottish friends being abused by anyone here either, yet, when we visited Scotland 2 years ago, my Husband and I were given some abuse by a group of lads, because we are English.
However, I don't generalise, and accuse all Scotts of being the same, and you shouldn't either, as most people, whether English, or Scottish, take people at face value, but there's always going to be eejits, either side of the border!! |

Sorry mate I can't answer your question. But I do know that thousands of Scottish people live in England so It surely can't be that bad.
Just don't take things to heart, there probably just having a banter with you. |

when i go to england the really stuck up ones pretend they dont understand me when i talk perfect english and dont use any scottish slang or talk fast. some english just act like arseholes, just like some of us scots are arseholes to some english.
so the bottom line is, somepeople are just twats.
ps; the only slang i use is "wee" really, because thats essensial. :P |

It's usually friendly banter rather than abuse - I lived there for 15 years and got ribbed about my accent etc. Sometimes the 'anti' feeling is expressed much more the other way especially when it comes to sporting events - the Scots would rather support ANYONE else rather than England but the reverse is not true, the English are glad to see a British team doing well (unless they Scotland is playing England of course!) The old joke goes like this: "Scottish fans support 2 teams: Scotland and whoever is playing England!" |

Sounds odd. I don't know anybody who would bother to be nasty to somebody for being Scottish. Why would they do that?
I know some people from Glasgow have quite a strong accent compared to other places in Scotland and more difficult to understand for English people. I can't think of anything else that would be wrong. |

I don'tt think it is quite as simple as Scots and English , David . It occurs between individuals from the north and south of England , between fans of different football clubs like Rangers and Celtic or Chelsea and Spurs . In days of wall to wall television most people are exposed and understand accents that are as diverse as the broad twang of London's East Enders , of Billy Connelly or the rapid fire syllables of a New Yorker . I would ignore and just enjoy your holiday - you say you return their " on numerous occassions " so perhaps it aint too bad down there after all ! |

I don't know why that would be. I think Scots are sexy with their kilts. You rock in my book! |

Also when i went on Holiday last year we became friends with some Scottish people and they did nothing but take the piss of our Englishness. ha |
