Hedge Witch in the very first answer got it right.

When you have some global perspective, you'll realise that the UK is for from being in a mess.

Pop over to any one of a number of African and some South American and Asian nations if you want to see a disfunctional society, bad roads, poor health care, no jobs, no pensions, no electricity, no water etc. etc.

Don't know how good you've got it!!!

Yaniyorum
Because we have an unelected prime minister who presides over a corrupt cabinet of politicians - none of whom are doing much to remove cancers like Anjem Choudary and the various milky-eyed preachers of hate up and down the country.

Hey - look around the world - it isn't just the UK!
No it won't collapse - it has been worse and recovered (a LOT worse!)

because the papers tell you it is, if you haven't noticed the rest of the world is in a bit of a mess, and it's highly unlikely the UK will collapse, the UK is very stable compared to countries like Pakistan which may well collapse anytime soon

Its not in the mess, compare to any other countries in the world UK is realy prosperos and stable, i have never seen a country so economicaly stable and i live in the eastern Europe and traveled round the world, UK is getting worth but really slowly and predictable, which is good. My advise stay in uk and save money, but if you have loads be ready to invest them into something realy stable.

The reason why the UK is in such a mess is that we have a government who wants to make the UK into a tolerant Society. The problem with this is that it is just not working! It seems the foreign nationals have more rights than the actual British people living there! One person complains about Christmas lights and nativity plays then its like we can no long have these things because it might offend them! Well i think the government should grow up, see that its not working and change tactic.
I like Australia's policy! You are welcome here and if you don't like the way we do things then please by all means leave!

Its all relative, compared with most other countries we are still very well off. However we have also suffered a very high percentage loss compared with most countries due to years of over lending which lead to false growth.

The main reason for this was the property boom which was particularly large in the UK, now that this has burst the financial services industry has reduced investment (which itself grew rapidly during the lat ten years, due in part to housing market growth). This has led to a collapse in economic activity across the globe but has hurt the UK particularly due to our unusually large financial sector compared with most countries.

As much as people love to blame the banks they are only acting on the cues set by government, for years the incumbent government has been letting interest rates stay low and allowing risky mortgages by refusing to impose regulation.

Now that consumer spending is falling due to loss of jobs it remains to be seen if the lower levels of industry in the UK will reduce the effect of falling consumer demand or leave us weaker if the financial system implodes further.

The UK will not collapse, however the more the people put up with this corrupt gov, the longer it will take to recover. A good start would be to start building social housing, this would kick start the construction industry and also help those unemployed seek training or apprenticeships. The NHS, like everything else this Gov has tampered with has too many managers counting paper clips and not enough hard working nurses, cleaners etc. I have yet to see any MP return the outrageous expenses they claim, i see no reason for the low or poorly paid to pay for already highly paid Mp's to live in luxuary in two homes, one of which they will sell at a huge profit later on. I'm ranting on but could go on for ever.

Stop reading the Daily Mail, you'll feel better after a couple of weeks without that garbage.

You need more of a global perspective, then you would see that comparatively the UK is not in too bad a situation.

Yes, there's too many managers in the NHS, but when you're in an accident you do get good quality care quickly.
The postal services aren't as good as when I was a kid in the 1960s, but most mail gets delivered when it should be (although later in the day, and last collections from post boxes are now far too early) - if you want to hear people complain about their postal service, talk to some Canadians, their postal service doesn't even deliver on Saturdays.
There's 2 million people out of work - which means that about 29 million people have jobs.
What do you mean, horrible roads? If it's the state of the roads you're complaining about, they're not bad - you may have noticed that one thing President Obama promised to do in his election campaign was spend vast amounts of money rebuilding the US's roads and bridges, as they're in a poor state. If you're complaining about congestion, that's a consequence of there being over 60 million people living on a small island, with most of them living in less than a quarter of the island's land area.

Every time we've had a Labour government the country has ended up being in one heck of a mess. Nothing different this time round.

well you cant really blame the nhs because at least we have one
and people all over the world don't have jobs at the moment and personally i don't think its as bad as the medea portrays it because i haven't met anyone without a job or kicked out of there house because of this alleged "credit crunch"
and many other people don't have pensions around the world and i think that most of the other stuff is because of a corrupt government and a unelected prime minister

but also i think that its because as a country we are spoilt and expect to have everything made for us

and also remember how much better your life is compared to someone Else's in a poor easter european country or something because even the poorest person in the country is like in the 8% richest in the world

Due to too many do gooders. People are no longer expected to take responsibility for their own actions so they break the law and get away with it.

Shouldn't that be why is the world in such a mess; corrupt incompetent
politicians is the base of most of it; I have an excellent postal service in this area (Surrey). While I accept there is a lot of cruel unemployment in certain manufacturing areas of the country, I believe much unemployment would be avoided if people were less fussy about the jobs they were willing to do. The NHS is a terminal mess and clearly it should be abolished in favour of the health care systems operated in countries like Germany and France. Don't know about the roads because I go everywhere by train; the railways are constantly
slated in the media and the system is not as perfectly run as those in many European countries, but the train does get where I need to go punctually most of the time and often twice as quickly as my colleagues who drive.

Well lets start with the term uk which is a joke at best because the united kingdom is anything but .Wales and Scotland are pretty much independent now and its time they were made to accept that with independence comes cost , in that they should fund their own health services then lets see if they think free prescriptions are a good idea . The reason i make this as a point is one of the problems with england especially is identity where as other countries find it easy to be proud of there status the english especially are somewhat vague on what being english actually is .

It's all due to politics, like Tony Blair, ect.
Other things such as Knife crime, immigration, the cut down of jobs, and ofcourse the bloody credit crunch!!!

The NHS is such a mess because of Drugs, and Alcahol abuse.
No jobs, or atleast the cutdown, is because businesses have gone bankrubt because they have borrowed to much money of banks, so they have had to shut down, forcing the cut down of jobs. And sinse banks have been too foolish to lend large amounts of money, they too are going bust.

No job = No pension

Horrible roads is due to the council.

And also people like Alex Salmond (Scottish First Minister) are making promises they can't keep.

And immigration isn't helping the job situation either.

And benifits are a mess due to criminals illegaly claiming them.

AND then, because of the money situation, the cost for the average tax payer has gone up, and the government is messing things up with the money, and doing things they cant efford

So no, its not going to colllapse, but yes, its a total bloody mess unfortunatly

life is good
The politicians making decisions only to lengthen their worthless pitiful career instead of making choices for the god of their country

because of the joke of a government that has been in power since 1997

I was too young to vote back then, but even i knew it was a mistake, and yet we re-elected them again, and then again

The uk is going to collapse because as Jeremy clarkson once said " we have a one eyed primemister "

Maybe if gorden brown opened the other eye he could have seen destruction before our economy melted down.

Evil_Moose
At this rate yes
I personally think the government and banks are responsible for destroying this once great country.
