Mr Frewster

Why isn't there a Motorway that goes across the Pennines, linking Sheffield and Manchester ?

Cos it goes to Leeds and Hull.

AdelleStevens
The M67 was intended to run from Manchester to Sheffield.
Built in the 1980's just as Motorways were being seen as unfashionable and a blight on the landscape it was decided that due to environmental issues and cost the road would terminate at the foot of the woodhead valley.

It currently runs from the M60 ring motorway around Manchester to nr Glossop where it joins the A57.

Citizen DeCat
Because there was a perfectly good electrified railway - until BR closed it in 1981. Very shortsighted.

happy
Because both cities are up north and cars have not been invented there!

I would not like to travel at 70mph on the snake pass! The M62 running from Manchester to Leeds is the only motorway close, and close enough for another motorway not to be built. It is very beautiful accross that stretch of the pennines, very glad there is not a motorway.

Ken B
Becoz all the ruling party, Harold Wilson, Dennis Healey etc were Leeds politicians, and thats why the M62 was built, at the time rather than adapting the Snake pass (A57), as a motorway

God I thought there was ,,,No wonder it was such a bumpy ride last time I went,, I thought it was normal for a UK Motorway
