Most books by Colin Bateman are based in Northern Ireland or their main character is Northern Irish, I particularly recommend Belfast Confidential, maybe the best and funniest book I've ever read and shock horror its got nothing really to do with the troubles!! Also try the following:

Big Jessie by Zane Radcliffe - Really really good

Cal by Bernard MacLaverty

Eureka Street by Robert McLiam Wilson

Resurrection Man by Eoin McNamee

There are many more but can be hidden gems! Keep trying though most are worth it!!

When I was at school we studied a book called Under Goliath by Peter Carter, and it followed a young Protestant boy living in Belfast during the Troubles.

I do not recall the author but the book title was Across the Barricades, and dealt with the problems of a relationship between a boy and a girl from different religions.

I have read a number of novels based in Northen Ireland, admittedly they are more about the `Troubles`
A couple were were written by Andy McNab and Chris Ryan.

There are a number of books set in Northern Ireland. Firstly there are an absolute ton of biogrpahies and non fiction books about the troubles but there are also numerous Fiction books too which might lead to easier reading.

For Children there are a few books centering on the "hound of Ulster" mytholgy stories set in and around Co. Armagh.

One such is: Cuchulainn : Hound of Ulster by Bob Stewart
http://www.bookfaerie.com/si/006720.html

For Teenagers there is the ever popular 'Kevin and Sadie' books which tell the story of 2 young Northern Irish people who fall in love (one being catholic and the other being protestant) at the height of the troubles. There are five titles in this series

The Twelfth Day of July,
Across the Barricades,
Into Exile,
A Proper Place
Hostages to Fortune.

For Adults, perhaps the most popular titles are from Colin Bateman. He has written many books either set in Northern Ireland or with Northern Irish characters. Some of these include:
Divorcing Jack (1994)
Cycle of Violence (1995)
Of Wee Sweetie Mice and Men (1996)
Empire State (1997)
Maid of the Mist (1999)
Turbulent Priests (1999)
Shooting Sean (2001)
Mohammed Maguire (2001)
Wild About Harry (2001)

There are others out there and they are usually worth finding. Look for the authors Bernard MacLaverty and Sean O'reilly also.

Utterly Monkey by Nick Laird is partially based here, albeit in the fictional town of "Ballyglass" . It has some funny observations in it.

Colin Bateman sets all his books in Belfast.
They're all hilarious too!

cutie_tweety_pie

If memory serves. I do believe there is a library in Belfast. Otherwise, I do not understand your question.
