We "have no time to stand and stare"
It's often cold, wet and windy
We are late
We are too busy to walk slowly
Our bus is coming
To meet a lover |

We're in a rush to get to the destination, rather than experiencing the journey! |

Because we are a more motivated and driven race, we are in a hurry to get on to the next thing, how else did we conquer most of the world and create so much. |

This question has made me laugh because indeed the do move fast. I think its due to the high stress levels and impatience of the british. When i arrived at hathrow last september i was shocked to see people practicaly running to get past immigration befor everyone else got there. I think its just that they dont like to waste time. Plus if you keep moving you wont attract unwanted attention (avoid being mugged). |

Uhm.
Because in hot countries nobody as the energy to walk fast without dying of dehydration.
However in England we don't have to worry about that do we! |

I thought people moving fast is not rushing but confidence--confidently striding toward immediate destinations and long-term challenges!
Well that or to get out of the rain. |

Below are some links abour walking speeds, which explain that we're all walking faster than we were ten years ago.
I appreciate that this does not explain 'why' people walk fast but London does not have the fastest pace. The gold medal for speed walking goes to the folk of Singapore.
Here's some info on the walking speeds of various cities - seems Singapore is the fastest . . . .

We're all walking faster and faster - so it seems.

Any day now, we'll break into a trot then a run and finally a mad dash. |

I have been to many countries, and have travelled all over England, and I've never noticed this.
Have you ever been anywhere in England other than London? If not, I suspect it's a London thing you're talking about, rather than an England thing. |

I don't know about the rest of England or the UK but in London, people appear to walk fast because we usually know where we're going & are usually focused on getting away from the crowds as soon as possible |
