Will I be able to get a job in England with a tourist visa? |
I don't mean like a great job, but like a job in a store/shop/restaurant etc.
If I can't get a job on a tourist visa while in England, what other options do I have, as far as supporting myself while in England? Any thought's would be very helpful.
From what it looks like, I can't get a work visa unless I have a degree (which I do not). The closest thing I have to a degree is a commercial drivers license, and a Graphic Design certification (from 13 years ago, and I never worked in that industry).
Thanks Additional Details I am American, living in the U.S.

If I were to try and find work at a pub, or something of the like, how should I go about it IYO? Would I just go in, tell them that I am looking for "under the table work", and see what they have to offer?
--------
Can you point me in the direction of any "backpacking places", where I can get in touch with them and find out more? |

You know you do not need a visa to go to England as a tourist, right? And if you apply for a "tourist" visa, you must show that you have enough money to support yourself while there...as a matter of fact, when you enter the country, the "immigration" officer may ask for proof that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your visit. And you know that if you get caught working while there as a tourist you can be deported and not allowed to return? |

Legally - no.
Under the table - perhaps. The advantage is the owner doesn't report you and doesn't have to pay any taxes or benefits, no bookkeeping. Your problem - if he decides to cheat you, you have no recourse. And if you get caught, you can face serious trouble. |

if you are a student you can through this program:

If you're a student try to use bunac to get a work visa. It's your best bet.
As for the person who complained because you refer to England rather than the UK or Great Britain, I don't know what his problem is. I've never know anyone to gripe about this. Good luck! |

State your nationality and that would be a great help, that way we can tell you if you're eligible to work in the EC or not.... are you American?
(cause England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland make= United Kingdom)...................................
On a tourist Visa NO! (very strict) |

I doubt if anyone will ask to see your tourist Visa.
I worked, in London for over a year and no one asked me for a tourist Visa, I didn't have one!, other options, work illegally, as I did.
I went to a temp agency, no one questioned me about a Tourist Visa. I was able to get a full-time job. |

No, a tourist visa does not allow you to be earning an income in the country you are visiting. But You should get in touch with the embassy and ask them if there is any way to get permission.
If you do work on a tourist visa you can get into a lot of trouble. |

What do you mean as England? or do you mean Great Britain. If you are planning on coming to Britain at least learn about it.
Now if you have a query about visas you may as well go to the British Embassy. |

you can't work legally, but many palces like pubs etc will pay under award rates in cash. Backpacker places often can point you in the right direction.
You could get a work visa if a particular employer wants you, but you would have to leave England and return on the new visa, and there is no guarantee of geting it.
If you have English Grandparents you can get around this too and get a job legally with a different VISA |

No. You cannot work legally in U.K. on a tourist visa. The same applies to Europeans who visit U.S. We are not allowed to work there without the proper documents. There are plenty of people looking for work who have the right to live and work in the U.K. - leave the jobs for them. |
