Would you recommend Salford, Greater Manchester? |
I am planning to move to Greater Manchester and I am looking around to find a relatively good place to live with my family (wife and daughter 5yrs old). We found out the rents are not that high in Salford but is it good? |

I've lived in Ordsall for two years and have never had any problems. My car insurance actually went DOWN by £100 when I moved there (but that was from Oldham so not sure how much that counts ;) )
Yes there's a few scallys that knock about the place but I'm sure that's the same wherever you go.
All these people saying how rough they think it is... I bet none of them actually live in Salford.
There's been a lot of redevelopment in the area and it's popular with young professionals now.
So yes, I would recommend it. |

It's rough. Avoid Cheetham Hill and Lower Broughton. Eccles and Ordsall too, Langworthy Rd.
Worsely is supposed to be better |

Salford has an unfairly bad reputation. Some parts are particularly rough (like Ordsall or Pendleton) but the majority is fine. However, the rent won't be that cheap in the nice bits, especially in any of those new luxury apartment developments. Try looking at places in Cheetham Hill, Crumpsall, Prestwich, Whitefield, Broughton, Swinton etcetera, if you want other suggestions for cheap places which are quite nice overall. |

Salford is a very varied city--with some of the best and worst of the Manchester area.
expensive/exclusive--worsley,boothstow... quays(where there's lots to do and see).
rough--lower kersal,broughton, langworthy.
The high rise area around pendleton is cheap, and seems to be improving |

It's close to Manchester city centre, which is a real benefit. I suggest spending a day looking round Salford, especially any areas that you've seen potential houses/flats. |

No-there is a damn good reason rents are so low there, it is a very rough place and not safe to raise a family there, unless of course you want your child being surrounded by crime & some of the roughest families in Manchester.. seriously-avoid it at all costs, it's not worth exposing your child to that area for the sake of a few quid!! Prestwich is a nice place though-defininately recommend that for a family. |

I've live in Salford for 13 years, and I'm alive and well.
I've just had my car vandalised during a trip to Prestwich, so I had a laugh at the last comment.
Don't live on the council estate in the region of Littleton road though! |

Depends on what part.
Monton is lovely, so is Worsley. just look about there. Real salford is as rough as a beavers bottom though. best of luck! |
