Yes, definitely.
Having travelled widely I can say this with experience. In Europe and America, the British are on sort of "level pegging" so we respect them and they respect us. In places like South Africa, Canada and Australia, former commonwealth countries, the have respect for England, just as we respect them in turn - I think a lot of that comes from the fact that a very large part of their population has ancestors that were British or they have links to the UK.
In poorer countries, they seem to be in awe of us - and by "us" I mean the western world. I travelled to a poor part of Africa recently, and in the street, people stop and stare at westerners, and seem to be amazed by the things you own, that you just take for granted.
I think one part of the world that doesn't respect England and the West in general, is countries where Islam is the main religion - this is probably because the Qu'ran says the "devil" is in the West. I think this is slowly changing now however, especially because there are lots of Muslims in Britain now - they can't believe that if they're living here. |

I doubt the people who live by holiday resorts abroad like and respect us. Would you respect a bunch of tourists who got drunk and made loads of noise and vomited all over your streets? |
|

Awesome. :)

I'm English and I don't give a load about what everyone else thinks of us. Everyone's a different individual, and shouldn't follow by silly English generalizations. |

No, I was ashamed to be English on my last holiday. I was staying on a gorgeous beach in South Goa and it ws lovely until 4 english guys moved into the surrounding beach huts, they drank all day and night and woke everyone up when they came back about 5am every night |

I can't speak for others. I understand there are different cross sections of people no matter where you go. Some will be intelligent, eduated, refined, some will be just the opposite, and everything inbetween.
People are people, no matter where you are. |

Depends which copuntry you visit. For example in places like India, Sri Lanka, china ,America, Australia etc then no problem-total respect. Less civilised countries like Iran, France etc will have no respect |

People are very envious of the English people and want to be like us so I would say yes....Everyone loves the English, why wouldn't they ????? |

I always got the impression that the rest of the world view us as power-hungry snobs who worship America and always have afternoon tea at 5 o'clock sharp.
Which is obviously untrue, but I think thats how we come across in the media. |

after living 15 years abroad, Europe USA, central and south america, I can assure you that the english are respected abroad. They are curious of our history, culture, comedy, music, sport etc, of course there are a few louts that dont help that feeling, but even they are generally in areas where that tourism is essential to the economy so tolerated. |

Hmm...Well for some reason people seem to think we sit around all day eating scones and drinking tea, that we all have awful teeth and that we all speak like snobs. Um...Yes.
So no, probably not. I'm not even sure that English people respect other English people... |

Whenever we go abroad and people find out we are Scottish we are hailed (probably coz we are awesome drinking partners!). On the other hand, I've seen us sitting in a bar, and the bar staff talking to some people and when they find out they are English the conversation ends. On that basis I would say English are respected by nobody. |

i think not. the best explanation for this is that, due to English is known as the lingua franca, internationally, the English race are well known. due to this fact to, sorry to say, some of the english people look down upon other people such as Asian. and they think they are much more civilized than the other nation =) |

I very much doubt it.
The English had a reputation for taking what did not belong to them i.e. other countries - the effects of which are still being felt years on. |
