Not Florida: too hot.

Humid New Orleans during hurricane season? Bad idea.

Everybody leaves New York in August, for good reason.

Nice places: San Francisco, or Chicago, or Boston and Maine (and other places in New England).

You could fly to Salt Lake City, check out the Mormon temple, the desert, the Bonneville salt flats, back to the mountains, then go through Idaho to Yellowstone/Jacksone Hole/Cody and maybe into South Dakota (the Sturgis motorcycle rally might be too much for kids).

go to San Diego, California, a lot to see, San Diego zoo, sea world, the beaches, hiking. good luck where ever you end up going.

If you have never been to the United States before, I think you must visit New York City. From there, you can also drive to Boston or Washington, DC. I think these are the three most important US cities to visit.

Another suggestion would be to visit Los Angeles (with Universal Studios and Disneyland), Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

How about New York City? You can go to Rockefeller and see Broadway, museums, stuff like that. I'd say Florida, but man, Florida is SO hot in August. The humidity will kill you.

Hawaii would be nice, but probably incredibly expensive. California could be nice too, probably Northern as opposed to Los Angeles or places like that.

I guess it really depends what you'd like or what you want to see. Northern New York and the other northern states (Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont) are beautiful weather wise, but as for things to do, not so many. Your typical tourist destinations are probably Florida, California, and Hawaii, and Florida is like I said before, a heat wave. And it rains in the afternoons. East Coast is probably a hard place to travel to in August since it's hurricane season, and you never want to get caught in one of those.

You could try Myrtle Beach, SC. It's supposed to be really nice there.

Wherever you decide to go, enjoy your time in the US! :)

I would definately go on a cruise to Alaska. Get off the ship, go on the train all through the country side, live it up. NCL cruise ships are casual and have lots for children and all meals included. Great trip.

3 weeks? Good enough time for either an introductory tour or immerse yourself in one particular area.

I instinctively have to suggest New Orleans, cause it's my neighborhood. We're not completely ruined and there's more to do than just French Quarter. We have the Audobon Zoo and Aquarium for the kids and of course, stuff for y'all (a saying you'll likely hear down here). And don't forget our cuisine!

But it all boils down to: what do you and your family enjoy? What kind of weather is better: hot, cold, dry, humid. Are you interested in big cities or small towns? Have you been to the States before?

Though very nice, I can't recommend Dallas. Houston or San Antonio would be better.
