21 is the drinking age, however, in college towns it's not hard to get something to drink. In my college town you can come in at 18 and drink at 21. But they always served drinks to our group when we visited the bar. It's not legal, but it goes on. |

Yes, they're really serious about underage drinking over here.
I'm almost 50 and the legal age was 18 when I was 18. I know you want to come and have some fun -- can't you bring someone with you who is 21 and can buy it and you all can go someplace and drink? Of course, if they get caught buying for you, they go to jail too. I'm sorry. I think it's wrong too. I believe that if a person is old enough to serve our country, they should also be old enough to have a drink if they want -- just what I believe. My son is 19 and in the service. |

get caught drinking in america the cops will probably shoot you. America is so backwards - you can have a gun at 18 but have to be 21 to drink. where is the logic in that??? |

Get ready to enjoy the moral sobriety of the US. And get ready to find out that you can't purchase alcohol in stores during certain hours or on sundays in some states too. |

You will be able to get into some clubs at 18, but you can't legally buy a drink. Most businesses will card you. Some establishments card every customer.....even senior citizens. If you want to drink while you backpack.....you should wait 2 years. |

if you can legally drink in your country then bring your license and passport and just tell them you brought it with you, but nightclubs i think are 18 to get in and 21 to drink in there, but if you reall need to, like i said, bring it from home |

If there are any states that have the drinking age set at 18 i dont know which ones they are. You are carded EVERYWHERE, and if you are caught by the cops you can be arrested...in face you WILL be arrested. The only way you will be able to drink is if someone of age buys it for you, you do it in seclusion, and you DONT get caught. And yes you also cant get into nightclubs until you are 21, you can go to the bar at 18, but you have to have a legal guardian with you and you cant sit at the bar after a certain time. In some NYC clubs you have to be 23 or 25 to get into clubs. America is gay like that...i know =/ |

you have to 21 to drink legally, you will be drinking illegally if you are younger, which will not get you in trouble, but whoever is selling you the drink in trouble, i will not worry about it. |

I live in in California. Here you have to be 21 to drink legally. But trust me I started drinking when I was 13 (I don't drink anymore) so there are definitely ways to drink under age. Go to parties. Parties always have booze hehe. In other words no it's not a big deal. A lot of people drink under age. |

afraid it's 21! Switch to sodas for the trip! |

the legal drinking age is 21 in MOST states, but its not a federal law, its a state law, so there are a few states where its 18, not quite sure which ones though. but you can find nightclubs all over Cali and NYC that you can be 18 to get into. as for the cops, just depends on where you are. if you're in a college party town (ex Chico, CA), the cops could probably care less because they run into how many of those a night?? just depends on where you are. good luck |

trying to figure it out

In the US, the drinking age is 21 everywhere. They will card you if you try to buy drinks, and in clubs unless you have a particular wrist band that proves you are 21 years of age you will be carded if they see you with a drink.
Clubs are either 18 and up, or they have 21 and up clubs.
You will be carded to get into clubs. If someone who is 21 happens to buy you alcohol and you're at home drinking it, then no one is going to be the wiser.
Also, a lot of people under 21 drink before they go to clubs, and end up being drunk at the clubs with no use for trying to sneak in drinks there.
It's less convenient in the states to buy alcohol because you have to get someone who is 21 to buy it for you, but it's still possible to get. It's just that you have to put more into getting around getting caught.
If you are drinking Vodka in a bottle or glass that isn't labled and doesn't look suspicious, and you are in public, then the cops probably won't ask anything about it.
You can get in legal trouble for public drunkeness and of course, drunk driving or operating machinery if you are under the influence.
Also if you're at a house party and it's too loud and the cops get called on your by the neighbors, you can also get in trouble.
I grew up in Germany, for the most part. It feels more restricted in the states than it does in europe.
Hope this helps a bit. |

It's usually 18 to get into clubs, some are only 21+, and it is 21+ to drink at any club legally, but you could get lucky and someone might serve you if you're cute ; ] |

i am pretty sure the drinking age EVERYWHERE in the USA is 21 i haven't heard of anything lower/ higher than that. but maybe find someone who is 21 or older and have him buy some alcohol for you, ik thats illegal too but it makes more sense that you are from another country, I'm not sure what to tell you besides that and maybe to wait until your 21 to come here. |

Yeah its 21!!!!
There is a law on it!!!
Because there is a law the cops will!
And yeah they ask 4 an ID!!!
I THINK! |

The legal drinking age is 21 in all states. If you look older, you may be able to get into clubs without being carded, or you may be able to buy alcohol without a problem...but I wouldn't count on it. Most shopkeepers ask for ID all the time because they can be fired if they don't.
I recommend making some older friends on the way and asking them to buy alcohol for you. Then again, that's illegal as well.
If you stay near the north, you can cross the border to Canada. The legal drinking age there is 19, and 18 in Quebec. |

The legal drinking age everywhere is 21. You cannot have a drink in bars/clubs until you are 21.
However, there are clubs that let 18+ in. So you can still party without drinking. You will need your ID everywhere you go.
You will get arrested if the police see you drinking underage. |

yea, im from new york, its usually 18 to get into clubs, buy cigs/porn... but 21 to drink, they are rather strict here about the drinking age, everyonce in a while you'll find a gas station that doesn't id you but all you can get there is beer lol. im pretty sure its a national law for the drinking age, everywhere ive been its been 21. in canada its 19 depending on what province you go to. my advice is to bring a friend or get a fake i.d. |

|
yeah you can't get into night clubs unless your 21 or drink i haven't heard of any 18 year states
but that doesn't mean there arn't any but it's a good idea if you can go that long without drinking and they check i.d. all the time (and in america it's bar tender not shop keeper and hallway not corridor) |

The drinking age is 21, you can get into some places at 18 and then have friends get you a drink, just don't get caught, even if you do you probably won't get in much trouble since you are from somewhere that allows drinking at that age. I would not suggest drinking a bottle of vodka on the street I think that is illegal for anyone: Public intoxication, if your somewhere like someones house or something unless someone calls the cops on you they won't come. |

What you should do is go to Ireland drinking age 18, and its got all that good atmosphere and is famous for its beer |

you can only drink if you are 21. most clubs you have to be 18 to get in, but others have specific guidlines. you also have to have an i.d. you arent allowed to drink in pubic or drive also. good luck! |

Most of the States are 21....police do get quite upset with an open bottle of vodka in public...and nightclubs the age is 21 in most states...However, you should research each state you plan on being in, as they all have their own certain local laws too, and you will need to be careful, especially since you will be here on a Visa....Good luck... |

for a nightclub, you have to be 21. there are big dudes at the door who check your id. you might be able to get by with a fake id that says you are 21, but it's not worth it if you get caught. if you just want to get a beer or something, you might be able to get one at a restaurant. but a nightclub is a different story. i would also think la and nyc would be more strict than perhaps a smaller club in a smaller town. |
