About transportation between LAS airport to the Strip?

As there are two of you I would suggest taking a taxi. It will likely be around $20 each way to TI. Many times when I have traveled alone I have taken a shuttle bus, but believe me, for the cost savings they are a hassle; when I go to Vegas in December (a week after you) I will be cabbing it even though I am alone to save time and avoid hassle. Shuttles sometimes take a while to load because they want to pack as many people on the shuttle as possible, and then they stop at every hotel and casino along the way; as you are in the middle of the Strip you should plan on taking a good book if you take the shuttle. The other downside to taking a shuttle is they expect you to board 3 hours in advance of your flight departure. They insist that it is to guarantee you make your flight, but really it is so they can spend an hour driving around picking up other passengers. I have had them detour when we were almost to the airport just to get an extra fare. As for the taxis, they take you where you want to go right away. At 1pm on a Monday there should be minimal traffic which will save you in cost. As long as it isn't peak traffic time you should get to most destinations on the Strip within 15 minutes. Also, don't let the cabbie try to talk you into "shortcuts" that are further in distance but supposedly quicker, there is no real shortcut and if he is a good cabbie he will take the most direct and efficient route without question. Do not consider buses unless you are on a true budget (but then you wouldn't be staying at TI would you?). In Vegas, you get what you pay for, so spend a little more and enjoy your trip!

The rate chart is approximate, rates will depend on traffic conditions, but the chart runs towards the high side.
The LVTA says it is 4.5 miles from McCarran to TI and the fare should be around $14.40

Do: Write down the TA phone #-702-668-4000
Don't: allow the cabbie to "take the tunnel"
If you feel you have been "long hauled" call the TA from the cab before you pay. There are heavy fines and the cabbie can have his license suspended for cheating.

I have no idea where "Rwong" gets his info but most of it is wrong.

You have to go to "Ground Level Transportaion Level 0" to catch the #108 or #109 CAT bus. The taxi stand is located outside the baggage claim area.

The CAT bus DOES have direct service to LV Blvd S(strip) - the #108 Paradise bus stops at LV Blvd, just North of Sahara Ave . You can check the bus routes on this site.

There are no CAT bus routes #301 & #302 anymore - The strip is serviced by the Deuce(Dbl decker busses) $5 for a 24hr pass

IMO the airport/hotel shuttles are the worst way to go - You wait for one going to your area, then you wait for them to get enough passengers to make it worth their while, then you wait as the let everyone else off. They don't pay a bit of attention as to which luggage belongs to whom. Don't buy the "round" trip ticket, they don't show up for the return to the airport and you end up paying for a taxi anyway.

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. We use the CAT/Deuce & free hotel shuttle(s) for the vast majority of our transportation in LV.

Later: I read through all of the answers and the "Duke" gave you some very good info, the only thing I would disagree with is his comments on the CAT/Deuce bus, these are a great way to get around LV and the drivers are super about helping you out it you don't know exactly where you're going(transfer points)

Take the shuttle buses. Their much cheaper than the cabs. here is a list of them.

Routes 108 and 109 have direct access to the airport and stop outside the arrivals and baggage claim area.

There is no direct CAT bus service from the airport to the Vegas Strip. There is CAT bus service on the Strip. Routes 301 and 302 provide bus service on the Strip.

Cabs can become expensive very fast especially if you get caught in gridlocked traffic on the strip, which is a REGULAR occurrence. I suggest taking one of the hotel's shuttle buses as they are usually pretty comfortable and no need to switch buses. The other option is to rent a car, however, that also can be expensive and you should have patience for traffic problems too. Or at least know some back roads to get to your destination.

Take it from a 20 year Las Vegas local who travels for a living. I'm in and out of McCarren Airport in a weekly basis...take a cab! The taxi line will look long when you queue up but it moves extremely fast.

Shuttles suck because you're forced to wait for three dozen passengers before it actually leaves the airport. Car rental is a hasstle and considering the Strip is only a few miles away, a car isn't really called for.

The cheapest is the bus. The most convenient is a taxi. The shuttle is a good compromise. The cost is much less than a taxi and it is much faster than a bus. They are outside the luggage check. Just pay for them there and you will be at TI in no time.

I always take a Cab. After a trans altalantic flight I don't want to be messing around with Busses and Shuttles.

However, If I am with friends who have never been to Vegas before I try and persuade them into have a limo just for the experience!

Off the topic of the question a little, but I stayed at TI for 10 days last year and had a great time. I like to stay at a different hotel each time I visit, but would stay there again without hesitation.

TI is a popular location. While on the plane or waiting for your luggage ask around to see if anyone else is going to TI.

We (3) found a couple going to Paris. We shared a limo for close to the same price as a taxi. The 2nd plus, there's not a better way to begin a LV vacation then arriving in a limo.

Shuttles can be unpredictable. Cab from the Airport to the Strip is less than $15. Don't be intimidated if there is a long line at the airport there are tons of taxis and the line moves really fast.

i took super shuttle arraned ahead of time taxis are cheap and plentiful and airport is near strip. Unless ur goin to like hoover dam which is cool don't get car cause its easy walk/ taxi and traffic stinks
