I slept through the GREAT STORM of 1987 in Surrey England and we still hear about it 21 years later on the news each year.
We get the clip of that poor weather man who says theres no truth in the rumour that a hurricane is on the way.
I bet he is fed up with it too.
We have also just had the 50th aniversary of the east coast floods.
You will be hearing of Katrina for years.
Just be greatfull your name is not Katrina.[ or is it?] |

I hope you keep hearing about it. The public's attention span is very short and there is a danger southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi will be forgotten. How often do you think about the 12/26/04 Tsunami that swept through Southeast Asia and killed over 100,000 people?
Katrina was the worst natural disaster to ever strike the United States. The storm wrecked an area of 90,000 square miles (larger than Great Britain), killed at least 1600 people, displaced more than 2,000,000 people, and made 500,000 of us long-term homeless. In New Orleans alone, 225,000 homes were destroyed and the damage is estimated at $200 Billion. New Orleans is only a small part of the area wrecked by Katrina.
Recovery from such a huge event will not be quick, easy, or cheap. The rest of America needs to NOT FORGET and to not just turn the recovery into a campaign issue to be discarded once the election is over. |

No, I'm sure the people who lived through it are sick of it too. |

I personally don't think the mainstream media is reporting on it enough. Until the area is fully recovered, or at least close to it, the topic should not leave the national conscious. Please take a look at the recent video linked below. |

Well I hear about it everday, it is a little aggirvating because I've lost a lot of things from that storm and I don't want to remember it but we will probably hear about it for the rest of our lives. |

Not really, its part of history and many parts of the city are a long way from recovery. Reminders and mention of the storm are few and far between on the news these days and many people have all but forgotten the long road back to recovery that lies ahead. Continued awareness can only help the recovery efforts. |

I'm kind of used to it, but it's still tiring. I do wish the stupid thing never hit. |

yes it is really played out and most people are tired of hearing about it. but i is good that peeple are talking about it, because when people stop talking about it they tend to forget. like 9/11. after the towers fell everyone wanted to kick osama binliddins ***. now years later people want to bring our troups home but we still haven't found him. the passion of a story is lost when people stop talking about it. i bet if we played the footage of when the towers fell everyday on tv and you had to watch i bet we would all be saying lets kick some as*. well these people are still living in the nightmare of katrina. and they will comtinue to talk about it untill their suffering has subsided and that will take a long time. and yes though aggrivating to continue to hear about it, it is good they still are giving passion to the story because if no one complained slowly by slowly the help would stop and eventually it would be like 9/11. the forgoton cause for war and they would want to bring our troops home. and in new orleans their almost back to normal but everyone still is suffering and we are striving for a better new orleans. |

Yes!
And what's worse is when someone hears where you are from, they give you that damned pouty face, that makes you want to smack the S**T out of them. Let's get over it. |

i am tired of it too, i understand that a lot of people were lost and their families hurt. but really, i've lived in new orleans in the past and if i'd have been living there when katrina was headed that way and seen the weather reports--then i would have packed up my car and got the hell out of there. for those that say what about people without transportation--they could have walked to Baton Rouge before the hurrican got there. it was a horrible tragedy, but re-building is what matters. new orleans is an awesome place. |

I am sick and tired of hearing about it. You know in Texas when our houses get blown away by tornado's, yes mine has, we just go ahead and clean up after ourselves! |
