A hospital should be more structurally sound that other options- a house, for example. I think you'll be safer than you think. |

I admire your career choice in an altruistic profession.
When you are working, you should be fine. Not only are Hospitals build stronger than most buildings (except govt bunkers and some military installations), you also have backup generators and redundant safety systems.
The real danger depends upon the number of looters and maniac comeing through your neighborhood. After Katrina the police disarmed the law abiding citizens, who were acting as their own malitia to protect their life, familiy and property.
I hope the local law enforment don't screw up again with Gustav.

Hospitals have stricter building codes that most buildings. Their foundation is thicker and deeper. There is more rebar in the super structure and a higher grade steel. I've done some commercial construction and hospitals are designed to protect the patients from things like natural disasters. |

That would be tough, but your in the safest place in the City atm....my Sister was in a similar situation at an Army Base in Australia, faced with the worst Bush (Forest) Fires in 100 years, you'll be fine there, just don't go outdoors, its scary though, good luck luv! |

I've worked on the renovations and building of new hospitals and firehouses in the past. The codes require many times more safeguards than a regular commercial building. They are built to withstand pretty much anything short of a nuclear blast (and even then, I'd put my money on the hospital.) You'll be fine. You're in the best possible place to be. |

Get on your knees and ask God to keep you safe and emotionally strong. Believe that he will and then relax.
Thank you for being brave and staying with those who need you.
God Bless. |

most likely yes.
Buildings like hospitals, city halls and malls are probably the safest places to be in this situation other than leaving.
They're built stronger. |

were you in N.O. for Katrina? if that hospital withstood her, you'll be fine. |

I think so, more than if you were at home I think.
Modern hospitals are built expecting the worst, they have special equipment in their foundation to protect against nature, and also the windows are strong and usually are made to crack and not shatter, stuff like that. I wouldn't be worried. By the way; what wind?
Oh, and if you're at an old hospital, I wouldn't worry either, Yearly inspections, make sure these are up to snuff.
Hope this helps ^_^ |

Well if i had to ride out that hurricane i would rather be where you are. A hospital would probably be oen of the safer places. They should have generators for back-up power. You will be fine. |

The best thing to do is look into it yourself. see if this hospital is high on ground, and if its built strong like a usual hospital. if so, then you should have not that much to fear. it will be bad, but as long as you are prepared, you should be able to make it out of there well.
whatever you do, don't just give to all this god mumbo jumbo. only you can prepare for this storm, those patients are counting on you, and you alone can solve your problems. hope i cleared things up. |
