Americans, which one of these countries had you rather live in for a year (just a year!)? |
England or Italy? If money or language (for Italy) wasn't a problem, which would you choose and could you please tell me why because it doesn't help me much if you just say "England" or "Italy". Thanks for the answers! |

Italy is amazing and completely beautiful! The architecture is without comparsion! The food is like a diets worst nightmare! The social life is non-stop, family matters are paramount and everything is fun oriented. Tuscany has complete fields of just sunflowers! Its amazing to see that and I just got to see it from the bus :) I loved my trip to Italy, my favorites where Venice, Florence and the island of Capri. I think my experience would have been even better if I could confidently speak in Italian, that lets you really intergrate to your environment. I have never been to England, but just the facts. Its cold, its really cold and foggy, its really cold and they speak english. Thats about it. I would choose Italy! Woohoo! If you where to pick Italy there would of course be nothing stopping you from taking a little mini trip up to England using the trains or even flying if you really want to get there fast, you would get the best of both worlds! Plus being close to Italy would give you access to Greece, France, Germany, Switzerland. The trains really are great there! So now in order for your trip to be perfect you are going have to bring me! I have experience and I really enjoy eating pasta at every meal. :) Aloha have a good experience where ever you go!

Are you kidding, love the Italians and their zest for life. The British are so cold and aloof, no emotions per say, just like Canadians. A dinner meal at an genuine Italian home is enough to sway anyone's vote. |

England. My family can be traced back for generations back the to the 1470s. I would love to walk on the same streets that so many millions of people had so far back in the history of the civilized world have walked. The royalty and the honour alone would stun me to silence and mark my soul forever. |

Italy -the country is beautiful, and the weather is nicer. Outside the cities, the people were friendly. It's a little cheaper. Also, it would be a more "foreign" experience. Oh, yeah -and the food is WAY better! :) I can't stand mushy burgers and baked beans. |

Italy - better weather, incredible history that goes back past England's, the art, the food, the "vino". Wouldn't mind visiting England either, but if I have to choose I will go with Italy. I hear that it is also less expensive to live there. |

I spent a year in England and I LOVED it! I love traveling so it's hard to pick one over the other. I'll can tell you what I loved about England though. The pace of the day is slower there... they take time for things. I love the tea shops, and the bakeries, and the street performers (I was in York) and the architecture was so amazing. It easy to travel there, the bus and train are usually very easy to get to and not very expensive. Plus it's nice for a first traveling experience to be in a place that speaks English.
Though I'm sure there's just as many wonderful things about Italy. |

Italy ~ because of the art, food, good coffee, and rich culture. I have heard wonderful things about tuscany and venice and that the italian people are a passionate and friendly bunch.
I have heard nice things about england, but I would preffer to be with those who know how to do coffee and food very well. A whole year is a long time to be away from those creature comforts. |

Even though I love Italian food, I'd rather go to England.
Seeing Stonehenge would be one of the main reasons.
"England swings like a pendulum do...... bobbies on bicycles, two by two....Westtminster Abbey, the Tower of Big Ben, the rosie red cheeks of the little children......" |

I would rather live in England. I have always wanted to go there.
My ancestors on my paternal side came from there in the 1700's
I know that there could no longer be any thing left of that family
that would make us matter to one another, and that isn't why I
would want to go. I would just like to walk where they walked and
try to feel a connection. Then....I would go to Italy! ha |

You're in luck! I've travelled through both countries. I'd have to say I liked England more, and I would live there for a year.
People in England just seem like a high caliber than American, and yet they loved my American accent, which was cool. It was more expensive than America, but since that doesn't matter, it was really nice. There is just so much culture and beauty, and a unique atmosphere to it. It is also like a city - London that is - but it's like a slow pace city, which is what made me fall in love with it.
Italy is just too romantic for my taste. The architecture is wonderful and majestic, the ice cream is great, the pizza is not (weird huh?), the culture and atmosphere, again, is romantic and filled with history. The thing I didn't like about it (Rome at least, since that's where I stayed the longest), was that it just seemed so "touristy", kind of like Paris. Much of the city lost its lack luster because it was like a resort. But I mean, since it's just for a year, You could see everything there, and definitely take it in.
I'd choose England for a more tone-down escape, but a unique and cultural enriching experience. Italy for the same culture, more romance, but a bit of a tourist attraction. |

England. Italians are rude to Americans. I visited for 10 days back in 1995 and every city a visited was full of rude citizens. They don't like Americans, which is strange because tourism is their # 1 industry. Go to England. |
