Any Disneyworld rides suitable/tame enough for a 1 year old baby? |
Additional Details It's a family vacation and we have a 9 year old. I am wondering if there will be any rides we can all ride. I don't want to be just standing/ waiting around while my husband and son have all the fun.

There are a few rides that you can take your 1 year old on. I went to Disney 6 years ago with a 1 year old and 6 year old and had a great time. We have gone many times since. I always hear the argument "Wait until they are old enough to appreciate it." What a bunch of bunk. It is a FAMILY vacation, you don't leave your kids home. There is something in every park to do, from 1-99 years old. Besides, I know they are not going to remember the trip, but isn't that what pictures and video is for? Honestly, how much does anyone remember from ANY trip they took when they were younger? Sure, I admit from experience it is different when they are older, but there is something about seeing your little ones with that Disney magic that is something.
Anyway, off the soap box. There are plenty of rides that you can take the little one on. In the MK, just off the top of my head, we took our son on Pirates of the Caribbean, It's a Small World, Winnie the Pooh, Tomorrowland Speedway, Peter Pan, Dumbo, and all of the shows. Now, there is Aladin's magic carpet ride, Mickey's Philharmagic, and many others. Plus, check out the baby swap. Many people don't realize they can do that. Alert the person directing traffic at the front of the line that you are doing the baby swap. They will let your son and husband ride, then when they get back, your son can stay on the ride and you can ride it with him (that is how it worked when we went six years ago.) My daughter got a couple of extra rides on Thunder Mtn. Railroad and Splash Mtn., as well as rides in the other parks with this service.
Whatever you do have a good time. Of course you will, you are in Disney!
If you want more info on Disney and possibly more opinions, check out the Disboards. The disboards is a free message board website all about going to Disney. The people who are on the site are Disney veterans that go all the time and know what they are talking about. You can get resort reviews, trip reports, dining reviews, and tips and tricks for avoiding the crowds. You can even ask your question and get responses from people who are actually there as we speak. I think you will like it. |

There is a ton of stuff to do with a one year old - my son was one the first time we took him. At the Magic Kingdom, there are quite a few ride, like Dumbo, It's A Small World, Winnie the Pooh, Carousel... if there are age limitations, they will let you know. Take turns with your husband riding the other rides with your older child. There are several things at the other parks as well - Epcot has many interesting rides in the World Showcase where the entire family can go together. There are plenty of animals to see at the Animal Kingdom, and MGM has a fabulous playground as well as some great stage shows, like Playhouse Disney. Be sure to take plenty of sunscreen, and let the little one set the tone/schedule. Many kids will simply fall asleep in a stroller when they have had enough, but some will get overstimulated and cranky. Check out the Baby Stations - you can get anything you need, and there is at least one in each park. Have a wonderful, wonderful time (and don't worry about the naysayers :) ) |

Most of the stuff in Toon Town and Fantasyland would be fine for 1yr. |

One that I can think of. It's called; "It's a small world." It's a boat ride that takes you into a cave, very calm and not loud at all. There are lots of puppets singing. |

In the Magic Kingdom, they have tons of rides for that age. Your baby will love all the colors and sounds in Fantasyland and in Mickey Toontown Fair. The train ride that goes around the entire park would be great too. In Tomorrowland you can go on the Disney Transit Authority and possibly Buzz Lightyear's Spaceranger Spin because that is very colorful.
Epcot has a few rides that your baby can go on like Journey into Imagination with Figment, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, there is another ride in the Land Pavilion that shows about agriculture. As long as you go on rides such as these, eventhough your baby won't remember much, you and your spouse can still have a great time. |

Disney offers baby swap where one of you can ride a ride with your 9 year old and then get a pass where the other one of you can go straight to the front with your 9 year old. So your 9 year old can ride it twice once with each of you and only have to wait once. get that book The Unoffical guide to WDW with kids by Bob Sehlinger with Len Testa. It explains it all in ther plus it sayd which rides are good for one year olds |

Here are the tamest ones in the Magic Kingdom:
1. It's A Small World
2. Dumbo
3. Jungle Cruise
All the others, in my opinion, will upset your child due to loud noise and/or lots of motion.
However, you could spend a good deal of time in Mickey's Toontown with a 1 year old. In that section, you can get your faces painted, take a picture with Mickey, and play at an outdoor playground-type area. |

We took our 5 year old and our 1 year old last October. We took our 1 year old on alot of things, and he had fun too. We realize that he won't remember any of it but we are planning on going back too. Things we rode with him were It's a Small World, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Cinderella's Golden Carousel, Country Bear Jamboree, Dumbo The Flying Elephant, Mickey's Country House, Mickey's PhilharMagic, Minnie's Country House, Peter Pan's Flight, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Pirates of the Caribbean, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Indy Speedway, Cinderella Castle, Jungle Cruise, The Haunted Mansion, and Walt Disney World Railroad and that was just in the Magic Kingdom. At Epcot we rode Journey Into Imagination With Figment, and Spaceship Earth. At MGM Studios we rode The Great Movie Ride, and at Animal Kingdom we rode Wildlife Express Train, and Kilimanjaro Safaris. That was just the rides we rode with our 1 year old! This does not take into account the numerous exhibits, playgrounds, and shows in each park that we saw and did. He had a great time and so did we. We went expecting to go at his pace, we did, and it was great. Something else to keep in mind is the "parent swap program" When you get to an attraction that the baby can't ride but your older child wants too, one of the two parents stays behind with the baby. After the other parent and older child ride the ride then the babysitter and the same older child get to ride again - without standing in line a second time! We took advantage of this often and our older child loved it because he got to ride twice and wait once! Make sure you tell the line attendant before anyone rides that you would like to take advantage of this at each ride. Have fun...if you do the kids will too! |

Just wanted to say, we are also going to Disney with small children this year. And you shouldnt leave your child wth a baby sitter - its their holiday too! (thats what other people have suggested)
If you take a pram your baby can sleep when they get tired and then also get a guide - apparently they are great and tell you when to go one certain rides to avoid long queues.
Have fun! |

Nearly all the rides in Magic Kingdoms Fantasy Land would be fine. I can not think of any at MGM, Epcot, Animal Kingdom. Some of the shows at MGM may be nice for a child that age: The Muppets, Bear in the Big Blue House and maybe even the Honey, I shrunk the Kids Play area.
On our trips, I allways feel a bit sorry for families of very young childrens, they just seem to be on sensory overload the entire time. Good Luck, and you may want to consider a sitter. |

The best park to find the most suitable rides for your young child is definetly Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom is well-known for its very child-friendly atmosphere, after all, most of the park is based on the original animated classics. |

yes there are some. In magic kingdom in fantasy land (located through the cinderella castle). There is a ride the features winnie the pooh, and you sit in hunny pots and go through a pooh story book. This is the only ride i can think of that would be good for a one year old. Mickey's toontown fair in magic kingdom is also for the little kids, and they can walk through mickey and minnie's house. Also take your baby to character meet 'n' greets. I would also have your baby watch disney cartoons, or get him/her familiar with disney characters. have a grerat trip!! |

I'm taking my little girl for her first birthday. She wont remember it but I will have the pics. I know I have seen small children on It's a small world. I think the dumbo ride goes to fast, snow white is to scary. There are some but not many. But with the parent swap it could still be fun. Just don't go in the summer. It's way to hot and to many people. |

There are definitely rides that you can take a 1 year old on. Especially in Magic Kingdom. They also have shows and character greetings that your little one would like. |

If you can, leave the baby with someone and enjoy yourself, if not, then yes there is. In fact, there is one in Magic Kingdom that just has a bunch of cars circling around the entire park (up high but really slowly). It is a fun ride because they say things like "make sure all arms, legs and tentacles are in the car at all times". You get to this ride through future world. My boys were 8 and 12 when we went, but they don't like rides much, and they LOVED this ride (we rode it probably 30 times). Even my parents enjoyed it.
Just read a few other answers - it might be the Transit Authority ride in Tommorow land (future world, tommorow land same thing, right?) |

Thats pretty young. I would wait at least 4-5 years. By the time the baby will know who the disney charactors are and will have a much better time. |

I, too, would wait, but there are some rides you could take a 1-2 year old on...mostly in Magic Kingdom. |

What would possess you to take a 1 year old baby to Disney? Or any amusement park? Find someone to babysit for a few days. Wait to take the child until he or she is older and will remember it!
Good luck! :) |
