That is going to be perfect timing! Ten is a very acceptable time to go out. Even if my friends and I get together earlier, we will just hang out at someones apartment until then.

Although you will find that there are more "after work" places that won't seem as crowded/happening at that hour during the week. But don't worry, there are plenty of other bars to go to.

If it is the weekend, some clubs don't even open the doors until 10/11, so you would never want to be there that early!

That's early. I went out there and ended up a Sketchers in Times Square at 2:30am and it was still buzzing!

In NYC you can have fun up until about 2am then places start to close.
If you want to buy clothes you will have to do it the next day.

24 hours... well that depends on where in the city you are!
Nothing really heats up untill about midnight. Bars and clubs are open till 4am and when I used to go out I rarely got home before the sun began to peak (about 6ish). Get here Get dressed and Go have some fun.

Lots of stuff going on in Manhattan after 10. Don't worry. If you are staying in a hotel, check with your concierge at least the first night.

NYC is a 24-hour city. Always somewhere to go, eat, do, etc.

I have been to NYC quite a few times and you are right the that bars and nightlife don't really get going until later, especially on the weekends (about 10-11ish). BUT there is a huge after work cocktail culture, so the coolest bars will still be busy from about 7ish until the early hours. Also worth noting that the best restaurants get booked up very early and often do more than 2 sittings, so you can eat later if you want.

Looks like you've got perfect timing...hope you get some rest before the night out! Enjoy and have fun. I found it to be the safest city, even at two a.m. tons of folks out walking. It's incredible to be there.
