here are some suggestions and tips from our personal experience:
we went to NY for a week and stayed at the Hilton Embassy Suites.
we had a blast!!!
there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)
it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.
you should visit Serendipity for dessert :)

by the way, instead of waiting for hours in line to get to the statue of liberty, you may opt to have the NY waterway tour instead. This way, you will save enough time to tour other parts of the city :)
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/touring-new-york-city-on-day-2.html
there's also the famous BULL at the financial district :)
you should also try the yummiest Pizza Margherita at 'Lil Frankie in East Village ^,^
if you have more time, try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/traveller-in-new-york-city-day-3.html
this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi
also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.
don't miss to go inside.
it's wonderful!!!
we also went to Top of the Rock instead of the Empire State Building to avoid the long line hihihi because we were afraid we won't have enough time to see other parts of NYC :)
for shopping, you may want to visit Century 21, just across the former WTC.
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/livin-as-new-yorkers-do-day-4.html
you should have lunch/brunch at Cafe lalo!!! or at Sarabeth's :)
we chose Cafe Lalo hihihi because of the ambiance and because it's famous.
To relax, try having a picnic at Central Park.
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/labor-day-in-nyc-day-5.html
we chose to eat at the top of one huge rock there to have e good view of the whole central park :)
then, we went to MET (entrance is by donation only, you don't have to give 20 USD)
if you're a techie like my friends, you may want to visit the MAC store. it is now a tourist spot because of its unique architecture :p
DON'T MISS eating at PARADOU!!!
it's a MUST!!!
trust me on this!
you also gotta watch a broadway show! definitely!
there's WICKED and SPAMALOT :)

The Sony museum (make tour own tv prog free)
A wlk through harlem
Empire State building (go an hour before dusk so you get the day and night views)
Science museum in the Queens district
The art museum beside Central Park (forget the proper name)

Here are some top tips
1.Take the Staten island ferry ,It's free, yes free and it goes right past the Statue of Liberty .
2. Go to Century 21 it's a department store near Ground zero,Designer gear and fantastic prices ,there are some times street hawkers outside selling copies for the same price as you can get the real thing inside .
3.Go to the Natural History Museum ,They give you a sugested entry price and then you pay what you want to pay ($1 each is OK)
4.Use the subway $2 per jorney each if you miss your stop you can get on another train and go back with out paying any extra, the map seeems complicated at first but it's not that bad.
5.Don't buy your suveneers from the actual places get them from the shops in Little China or from the Hells Kitchen area where they are more reasonably priced.
6 If you are going to see a Broadway show ,go to the ticket boothe under the Marriot on Times square when it opens (sorry slighly vaigue) for 50% discount tickets ( these are proper tickets for decent seats ) I got front row for half the price of those at the back.
7.Go to Joe's dinner in Brooklyn for a good meal and fantastic cheesecake.
8. Grayline buses run a great sevice you can choose from 48 hours all loops witch means you can hop on and off any where on there circuit for 48 hours ijncluding the nighttime tour or you can go for the three day all inclusive tour which we thought would have been a bit to much .There operatives gave us some realy good local hint and tips |

Bracing brunch
Expect to queue on Sundays for Barney Greengrass – The Sturgeon King, a legendary Jewish deli at 541 Amsterdam Avenue between 86th and 87th Streets, open daily except Mondays from 8.30am. The egg platters with smoked salmon are vast. Wash it down with a glass of cold borscht (beetroot soup). At Tonic (107 Norfolk Street between Delancey and Rivington, there is a Klezmer (a kind of Jewish jazz-folk music) Sunday brunch: admission is $10
My mate has just come back and said the sturgeon, salmon and creme cheese bagle was one of the nicest things he has ever eaten.

You will love it! Walking around is great and can feel like you are seeing things from your favourite films. Statue of Liberty is a must. Ellis Island is good, very moving. Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and take some photos of the amazing skyline. View from the top of the Empire State is fantastic on a clear day. Wander round Central Park (watch out for the rollerbladers) Eat, eat, eat! Shopping - Abercrombie and Fitch is my favourite - a real experience - like shopping in a nightclub full of beautiful people. ! Have fun. |
