Anybody give me any suggestion for a fun weekend in Wisconsin. That is not far from Chicago IL?

Wisconsin Dells.. definitely. (You can rent our place on Lake Delton!)

Seriously... great water parks, amusement parks and roller coasters, fun, touristy, lots of food choices (Crabby's is truly an experience, as is Paul Bunyan's but in a better way).

Lake Delton is a big lake there ... you can rent watercraft, sit on sandy beaches, have cook-outs. Great place.

Door County is about five hours from Chicago. You can rent a room at a bed & breakfast (I recommend The White Gull Inn). You can rent a boat and spend the day on the lake, take the ferry over to Washington Island, go to a fish boil, see a movie at an outdoor theater, bowl, swim, fish, hike, or just relax!

Wisconsin Dells-

House on the Rock in Spring Green
This is my favorite place in the USA
The House on the Rock is a complex of architecturally unique rooms, streets, gardens and shops built mostly by Alex Jordan, Jr. The "house" itself was begun in the 1940s atop a column of rock that stands in a field in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and additions were made to the structure for several decades afterward. The complex now features "The Streets of Yesterday", a recreation of a turn-of-the-century American town; "The Heritage of the Sea", featuring nautical exhibits and a larger-than-life model of a fight between a blue whale and a giant squid; "The Music of Yesterday", a huge collection of automatic music machines; and the world's largest working carousel, among other attractions. During the winter, the attraction features a Christmas theme, with decorations and a large collection of Santa figures.

The earlier structures, namely the House on the Rock itself, the Gate House, and the Mill House, are reminiscent of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, though much less coherently designed than is characteristic of Wright, given its patchwork of external structures and interior spaces. The building actually began partly in spite of the master architect, who ran his Taliesin communal school near Spring Green: Alex Jordan, Sr., father of the younger Jordan, was a failed one-time student of Wright. The senior Jordan began the House on the Rock prior to the 1940s, but passed the project on to his son, who expanded on the original idea extensively and first marketed it as a roadside attraction. These early structures feature exposed stone, low ceilings, dark woodwork, and antiques on display.

Jordan sold the house in 1988 to a friend who continued building onto the site, adding to the collections of knick-knacks and exhibits featuring authentic pieces, reproductions, and especially-made examples of everything. The most recent addition is the "Spirit of Aviation", a collection of large model airplane designs in a themed room. Another exhibit, the "Transportation Building", is currently under construction (and has been for many years), but visitors can walk through and see the work in progress.

Other non-lengthy suggestions would be the :
Town of New-Glaurus (The Little Switzerland of Ohio) check that out for great cheesehouses, swiss restaurants and a great microbrewery.

The town of Mt. Horeb- great place to see the Mustard Museum and a city that is full of trolls lurking the streets. (Very fun place)

The town of Baraboo- Home to the Baraboo Circus museum- which is incredible. Also home to the forevertron- avery wacky sculpture

For more big city action, check out Milwaukee and Madison, they have lots of great attractions and museums.

I hope you enjoy Wisconsin. that is one of my favorite states.

Milwaukee is a fun city to visit for a weekend. There's a harbour and great dining and a fun nightlife scene.

Try Whitewater Wisconsin. It is not nearly as touristy as Lake Geneva but it is more calm and peaceful. I would also recommend Deleva Wisconsin its a nice moderate sized town with nice hotels. If you want to be on the lakeshore try Kenosha or Racine. The biggest wisconsin city is Milwaukee but is only about 2 hours from the Chicago Metro area.
If your looking for a historic trip try Fort Atkinson or Jackson Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Dells is fun and touristy. They have lots of hotels and campgrounds close to everything.

I would have to agree Wisconsin dells, is a great place to go! For tourism, with their water parks, amusement parks, and if you don't mind spending a little money, some of the condos there are pretty fun too, (I'm trying to remember what there called...) but they have 3 buildings with 3 different water parks in them... There are some good campgrounds by Milwaukee, and within 35 mile radius of there...

Milwaukee is cool and so is the Wisconsin Dells.
Its about 4 hours north west of chicago

I was just there last week!! I live in Kentucky, but my brother lives in Chicago and just got married there. After the whole wedding deal was over we went to Six Flags over Chicago! It was a blast! Very close to Wisconsin.
p.s. if you go to six flags, and you like roller coasters, the new superman ride is AMAZING! :)
