I wasn't born there,my mommy was ,but I lived there from age 3 to 12, then Katrina hit. I've been living in Gonzales ever since. I still have some family there, but now most of my family is in Texas or Georgia. Me and my mom aren't moving back though, I think she has had enough of the city. We go there often though. Probably 3 or 4 times a month. But I will forever be an New Orleans girl. My favorite city in the world. |

I was born and raised in New Orleans. I was born in Baptist Hospital when it was still Baptist before the Hurricane. I lived there until I was 14 and moved 30 minutes above it. Me and my family moved exactly a year before the hurricane hit New Orleans and I lived in NO East which was amazing that I moved because my house and my grandparents house would have been basically destroyed. So, we were lucky. But my aunts and uncles and cousins and so many friend's houses were destroyed or damaged in some way shape or form. It was a devastating time for everyone. Luckily where I was living at the time, the only thing that happened was the gate fell down and a tree was uprooted, but that was pretty much it. Why did ya'll leave NO? |

Nope. Born in Queens, NY. Parents born and raised in NY(different parts) as well. However, my dad's aunt(my great aunt) moved down here around 30 years ago. My parents hated New York and wanted to get away, got ahold of her in 1990, she told them about here and sent a newspaper, they saw the prices and came down and been here ever since. I was 2 years old, lived in Orleans Parish(Uptown) until I was 14, now I live in the Old Jeff, same as the guy above me^^^. Did fine during Katrina, I was far west, and I live as I always have, along the river. |

I was born at Touro Hospital (when they were still called the Touro Infirmary). Moved to unincorporated Jefferson Parish when I was three. Still there.
After Katrina, my company sent me to Texas to work at our alternate site for several months. It was a shock to come back and see how badly the trees had been destroyed. Between two major factors, the place isn't as green as it used to be.
First, the saline overflow from the backwash of brackish lake water killed a lot of plants.
Second, the ground soaked up way too much water and got very soft, so top-heavy trees fell over.
I still mourn for the trees. (Yes, I mourn for the dead, I'm not heartless.) I mourn because my grandsons will not remember the city being as green as I remember it.
On the other hand, Katrina shook up the local politics enough to boot out some of the dumber politicians. That, I can see as a good thing. Which yet again corroborates that old saying, "It's an ill wind that blows no good."
Not to be confused with the description of the oboe, "an ill wind that nobody blows good." |
