My mom and I took the bus one time from Texas to Los Angeles.
It's a trip - some of it was good, some was bad, but it was anything but boring.
It was 25 years ago and I still remember that trip - including the bus ride.
Enjoy it! It's a whole different experience. |

Smelly people, cramped seats, greasy gross spoons to eat at, really gross bathrooms, I don't envy you at all! Sorry, but you need to know!!! My 30 yr old daughter just spent 16 hrs on one and said she never wants to do it again!!! I've been to the bus station and it looks like the lowest of the low life people travel this way! I mean they smell and look dirty!! |

NC to CA is a VERY long time on a Greyhound! I only went from OH to NC...one time was enough for me. My sister has done the cross country thing...again...only one time lol...Be careful with your belongings and cash. Keep your cash in your front pocket versus a carry on or in a wallet. You will encounter some...well...unsavory types of people, for lack of a better term.
To be honest, I would save up or borrow the cash to fly. |

From north carolina to california is a long way and on a greyhound bus it may be really uncomfortable |

I would not go on another greyhound bus trip in my entire life again. GOOD LUCK! I was going from New Mexico to California. The bus broke down twice, they a.c didn't work and the bus driver drove like a maniac. Now that was like 10 yrs ago so maybe it got better. |

I took Greyhound a few time in college to get from school to home and back again. At the time smoking was allowed. The air quality was awful in the whole bus because the entire smoking section was lit up. On one trip the bathroom was broken. Another time a drunk threw up in the aisle at the back of the bus. A trip that would have been 4 hours by car turned into a 7 hour ordeal because of the frequent stops at small towns along the way. In the end, it was horrible. And don't get me started on the bus terminal. I'd have preferred a gas station at the side of the road (some buss stops are nothing more than that) to the horrors that were taking place at the big city bus terminal.
Good luck with your trip. You'll definitely have stuff to talk about afterwards with your friends and family. |

The sites, are great. The people are okay. But the repeated stops, suck...... The seats are quite uncomfortable, after a few hours...... But, it is economical, and gets you there, faster, than you can walk, or ride a bicycle. |

i enjoyed it. cause they stopped at fast food places like mcdonalds. and plus i had to ride the greyhound bus because me and my fam got snowed in at a airport. so the pilot dropped everybody on my plain in atlanta, georgia. i lived and still live in virginia. and it was an baltimore airport. so in order to get back to va we had to take the greyhound. |

I rode the Greyhound bus one time and I would rather take a full fledged all out butt kicking than ever ride another Greyhound bus! Simple as that. I can't even look at Greyhound buses without getting a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. NEVER AGAIN!! No way No how!! |

If youre going with a friend it shouldnt be bad. I believe it was Homer Simpson who said, "Alcohol, the solution and the cause of all life's problems."
Its going to be a long trip so bring things to keep your mind busy. PSP, Gameboy, computer, portable dvd player. I dont know if you can recharge those easily though, and I know my PSP runs out of batteries quickly. You should be able to call Grey Hound and find out if they have cigarette lighter for plug in adapters on their buses. You could also bring a book or two, but I would suggest a larger print hardback style, where you dont have to strain so much to read, thus you wont get motion sickness. |

You have a long trip ahead of you. The short bus trip that I took was 700 miles and it took 21 hours.
I am sorry to say you may meet some strange people on your road trip. Good luck and watch yourself. |

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!! Take a plane, it most likely will only cost you an extra $150 (if that). Don't say I didn't warn you. The drivers threaten their passengers that if their cell rings, they'll throw you off the bus in the middle of nowhere. They are rude and nasty people. The people on the bus are generally smelly and homeless Mexicans. The bathrooms are disgusting and the trips are long. The buses are known to break down because they don't maintain them. I won't be surprised if they go out of business in the near future. If you still go, don't say I didn't warn you! |

YES! Two days going from upper Illinois to Florida. It's alright if you can stand the person next to you. The only frustrating thing is trying to get to sleep and not being able to stretch out your legs. I'd suggest one of those pillows that wrap around your neck--you can get one that's inflatable for easier travel. Other than that- bring reading materials, music, snacks.... and be sure to be one of the first to the truck stop bathrooms, the lines form quickly :) |

Oh, no. I feel sorry for you.
Yes, I've taken greyhounds--usually only for 3-4 hour trips though and they're not very nice. While the seats are comparable to a place, you only spend a couple of hours on a plane. Can you imagine spending 20-30 hours in plane seats?
One time I took a Greyhound for a 7 hour trip and it was horrible. |

My roommate did from Texas to Virginia. They lost her luggage, and she didn't get it for a week. I think it was pretty long, boring and rough. But she was a real trooper. |

if you are buy yourself it is exstreamly boreing. and sometimes you have like a 5 hour stop at like 1 in the morning.
If you have someone to go with you I think you would be ok but remember something with music or a computer or a gameboy or something.
you also have to sleep on the bus because if you try to take a nap when you are off you might end up buying another ticket |

yea its really bad very crowded, they stop at either really bad pit stops or really expenseive ones, its very crowede and uncomtrablle, i went form New York to St. Louis a 16 hour, i like when no one was on but when a lot ppl got on it was horrible
I think urs might be worst cuz its loonger and to a much more popular destination, but in the beggining i think you wont mind but when u get closer to Cali and more and more ppl get on u will hate it
have a safe trip though |
