If you are a US citizen you should be able to go where the US flag is flown and where it is not a war zone or a military base.
Look at your rights as a US citizen. You can go anywhere in the 50 states of the union, including territories, except designated military sites.
I do like Greencreeper's answer though, nicely put, mate ;-). |

Are you serious? Hawai'i has been a state since August 21, 1959. Do you need a passport to go to California if you are living in Michigan? |

All U.S. citizens are welcome to Hawaii, because it is a state in fact , the 50th state of the U.S. Hawaii is not a foreign country, in which case you do not need a passport to go there. |

Yeah, why wouldn't U.S. citizens be able to visit one of the states of their home country? Please tell me you are aware that Hawaii is the 50th state of America? |

Generally the answer will be yes. It is no different than travel to any other state by car. There are no checks if you come directly from another US state. If you are coming from some other destination you are now required to have a valid US Passport. You need that same passport to travel outside of the US.
The only restriction you have traveling to ot from Hawaii is relating to carrying any plant or animal products, or if you have visited any farm in the two weeks prior to your arriving in Hawaii. They are worried about, and rightly so, about any plant, animal, or bugs entering either Hawaii, or the US. |
