It all depends on from where you are coming.

If you like a warm and dry climate, Portland isn't your town.
If you like watching pro sports, Portland isn't your town.

However, if you like beer, Portland is a mecca.
If you like outdoor hobbies, Portland is a hub.

Ask a follow-up question and we'll answer it.

I live very close to Portland Oregon and I'm there almost every weekend.

It all depends on what you prefer. Its the "big city" in Oregon. so there are a lot of tall buildings and stores. You can walk or ride the bus almost anywhere and its actually easier then driving your own car because it can be hard to find parking if you drive your own car.

So if you like the city Portland should be a good place for you but if you're more of a small town or country person you might not want to move to Portland.

I liked it. It does rain alot, but usually not all day on any given day. The people are nice and generally better drivers than anywhere in the southern US and politer than any in the eastern US

I have lived in Portland, Oregon 3 times in my life. I loved everything about it. Except now that i have been gone 15 years my friends say it has turned almost as liberal as San Francisco. Now I know I will never go back. I live in Alaska where it is a Red State like the years when I grew up. Sorta Redneckie LOL.

If you don't like the rain that can be a con. Same with crappy drivers.

The rain for 9months and the job market stinks and the price of homes.

brassinpocket
Price of housing does not coincide with the income levels. Houses are OUTRAGEOUSLY priced here.

The weather is a difficult adjusment for most.

While we are a liberal minded city, we are often oppressed by conservative state laws since the rural areas often vote conservative.

Only come here if you are open minded... We have a diverse mix of lifestyles here.

The schools SUCK.

Most strip clubs per capita than any other city.

But, I love Portland's scenery, lifestyle, cleanliness, open-minded ways & entertainment.

Crime, rain, crime, rain, crime, rain....you get the idea.

Too many californians ...

Its a city with a lot of homeless people all over downtown. Every few steps you have someone asking for money or a cigarette.

The rain during the winter.

if you don't like rain...then that could be a big problem. also the job market is not the best in the country.

other than that...everything else about it is perfect

The housing market is really overpriced. Soooooo expensive to buy in some areas. It's really hard to find anything under $400k unless you're willing to live on the outskirts or buy a fixer.

many (not all) self righteous liberals. I came out here on contract for a couple of months, and have found a few things shocking. things people think of NYC that have never been or visited there, that do not exist. there is a homeless problem in this city, i.e. sleeping on the street. panhandlers are everywhere. the food is mediocre at best. I arrived in Portland in October, in November it started raining, in March the sun came out for a whole two days, now it is raining again.

KatGuy
The job market here is weak, it's cloudy 9 months of the year with drizzle, it's a somewhat smaller city, and after I moved here I got allergies due to the pollen and mold spores in the air.

brendac01
It rains to much
