Are there any cities in Michigan which are growing economically?

Seems like EVERYTHING in Michigan is failing.

Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo.. all of them are going down the drain.

So are there any Michigan cities which arent?

I'm from the UK and I loved Traverse City. It sure was busy, but a lovely area to live and work.

west michigan does ok, and tourism around traverse city/leelenau bay is always good. even if the economic infrastructure collapses, michigan will always have a good agricultural base. and tourism up north and along lake michigan will always be strong.

Contrary to popular belief, Grand Rapids economy is actually growing. Thanks to the booming of the healthcare industry, the recent job growth in Grand Rapids is 2.44%, compare to Detroit -0.60%, and 1.40% nationwide (according to the latest stats. by the Dept. of Labor.)

New hospitals and clinics are opening almost every quarter in the past few years. Michigan State University will be opening the new medical campus shortly. Downtown G.R is also undergoing a lot of constructions for new businesses. Furniture industry seems to be on the right track in their recovery. Big players, such as Steelcase for instance, are closing their plants out of state, and shift their focus to Grand Rapids area.

Muskegon is not doing that bad, either. I am an adjust professor in one of the biggest private college in Michigan. I can tell you for sure that the demand for the new graduates has never been greater in the past decade.

G Detroit
There are many areas that are growing. The west side of the state and even as far east as Ann Arbor.

Grand Rapids is prospering compared to Detroit

Iron Man
Mexicantown in Detroit is growing economically, they have built new houses recently so it's got to be growing slightly.

JustAskin
Grand Rapids and that part of the state are doing fine. Why do you suppose that is??

I would have to say exit 4 off of I-96 (fruitport) with the mall. seems like there are 3-4 new buildings going up every year. So far in the past 6/7 years there has only been 2 businesses to go out (famous daves and benjamin franklins). Other than that just this month we have had a cici's pizza, taco bell, kfc, something else is being built over by kohl's and now a steak house in front meijer. So I would definitely say that fruitport is growing economically.
