Are there places (or people) in New York that will remind me of L.A.? |
Is there an In-N-Out Burger, a good beach--with palm trees, or a best place to watch the sunset? Is the surf culture there really comparable to that of SoCal? Does New York have EVERYTHING a visitor from L.A. can expect? Additional Details New York restaurants better than LA??? I say we're neck to neck with you New Yorkers in terms of quality, thanks to Wolfgang Puck. It's the delis we lack, but the burrito stands make up for that. |

Why not just stay in Los Angeles? Go to New York to see New York. |

If that's what you're looking for, you might be disappointed by NY. People come to NY for different things -- to see the museums, parks, statues, and architecture, to dine at a huge variety of restaurants, to shop at flagship stores, even to ride the subway or to take the Circle Line cruise, etc.
If you are looking for something reminiscent of LA, try driving through the Lincoln Tunnel on a Friday night -- the traffic will remind you of an LA freeway.

NY is NY and LA is LA. No in-n-out but there are good places for a burger; beach yes, palm trees, no. Surf culture is on Long Island, a suburb of NYC, as Manhattan is an island there are no real surf spots.
Why travel to be reminded of where you have come from? The idea is to experience something new. |

No. Stay in LA if you want that stuff, although you can watch the sun set over New Jersey or Manhattan (if you are in Queens). Why would you except anything in NYC to be like anything in LA -- they are two completely different cites. You can except cleaner air and better drinking water. The weather is completely different. |

Does NY have EVERYTHING for a visitor? To a point. We "steal" a few resources from New Jersey which is minutes away by train.
Ok. In-N-Out Burger isn't here but Fuddruckers (you should know whay I'm talking about) is here. LOL. I crack myself up saying that name all the time. One just not too long open up in Weehawken (that's over is Jersey too) and its under 15 minutes from NYC.
For beaches, you'll want to go to the shore (that Jersey too) or pop over by Gilgo State Park in Long Island where you can paddle to your heart's content out to the point break (which is divided by the bay and ocean) for great waves.

There are plenty of tanning salons.
Maybe you can stop by one before going to the incredibly tacky Hawaiian Tropics Zone in Times Square.
No, Hawaii is not L.A., but my understanding is that Angelinos can't get enough of the place.
That's about as close as you're gonna get around these parts.
Resistance is futile! |

We DO have a Fatburger in the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, NY (I know Fatburgers are ALL OVER the place in California). If you head way out to Montauk, Long Island (Ditch Hills), that's the best East Coast surfing you can find and a killer sunset for that matter.
The major difference between NY and LA is the land mass. LA is much more "spread out" whereas you really depend on the freeway to get you all over, whereas NYC is more packed in and that we rely heavily on mass transit (trains, railroads, buses) to get around. |

In&Out Burger is not a chain NY has. There are good eateries in NYC, though, better than LA has.
No palm trees north of Virginia. NYC has some beaches, Orchard Beach in the Bronx, Rockaway in Queens, South Beach on Staten Island. But climate prohibits palm trees.
Being on the East coast, sun RISE is the thing to see. But of course, sunset over New Jersey is visible, and very colorful thanks to all the pollutants NJ puts into its air.
As a transplanted native San Franciscan, I would say that you will be very hard pressed to find much in NYC that reminds you of LA, for which I, and all of northern California as well as New Yorkers, are most grateful. |

I live over in NYC so it is kinda b/c you can still see stars and shooting movies. But it was waaaayyy colder and there are way more people. There are no beaches in the city but on Long Island (about a 1 1/2 away) there are great beaches like Fire Island, Jones, and Robert Moses. (but you have to live on the island to go to Robert Mosses) Sorry it is too cold for palm trees but the beaches have the best place to see the sunset. I am not sure about a in-and-out I have lived in NYC for 10 years and have never seen one. In the city there is no surf culture neither on the Island. But NYC is great you can visit central part, go to the Bronx zoo, go to the beaches (if it is like June), go to FIT (my favorite), shop, see a Broadway show, see the Fire Island Lighthouse, see the Empire State Building, see the 9/11 memorial, see the museum of Wax, and see the statue of Liberty. And that is just a few ideas you could do in NYC and LI. |

why are you looking to recreat LA in NYC?
When in Rome do as the Romans- look at NYC for the beautiful city it is- do what's New York and stop trying to look for LA in it ( cause it's not there)
If you went to another country would you look for thing LA there also? If so, why bother traveling????
****** You should kick 'em out. What is the point of traveling to have the same ol same ol. I love going to Maine and friends complain they can't get a decent bagel. Try the blueberry muffins and move on. The whole country has different beauties-foods etc- try em********* |

In-N-Out Burger -- No
Good Beaches with palm trees -- no
Best place to watch a sunset -- go to the Empire State Building or the Brooklyn Promenade
Surfing in New York City -- only if you live in Long Island or the Jersey Shore, but not in New York City.
I hope this helped. Good luck |
