Are they super picky about height for Disney rides?

Yes they are pickey... They may have your daughter take her shoes off to get a more accurate measurement.

If the Castmember is doing their job like they are supposed to, they will be very picky. Disney is liable for each guest in the park, they put the age restrictions in for safety reasons. The height the put in determines if it is going to be safe for that child or not. Smaller children can slip out of safety equipment easier and be harmed because of it.

If they are really close to the height they will check to make sure they are the right height. They are supposed to make sure that the shoes they have on, and in some cases they will even check the if they have spike hair or something (lots of stories where parents would comb the kids hair to make them tall enough to ride the rides) and if they don't meet the requirements, they can't ride. Even the smallest difference can harm a child and then Disney would be liable. So, they are very careful with who they allow on the rides.

That being said, there are only 18 rides in Disney that have height restrictions on them. They try to have rides that just about any age can enjoy, but still have a few that are a little more for old kids and adults. Of those 18 rides, four of the rides she could still go on (Tomorrowland Speedway she can only ride in the car) Of the remaining rides, five of them you have to be at least 44 inches, so she would be too short to ride those.

Most of the rides that have height restrictions would not only be unsafe for her to ride on if she is too short, but I think she may be a little too young for them as well. Rock n roller coaster, Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, etc. are all more for the older goers at Disney than the younger ones.

I will include a link with the restrictions for you to look over. Looking at the rides and thinking back to trips that I've taken with children around her age, there are only a few that they may be interested in.

In my opinion, I would wait a while for her to ride these rides. If you wait a few years she will be old enough to ride safely on the rides and be old enough that they won't scare her too much.... If you really want her to ride, then the best thing to do is try it and see what happens. Being that close, some castmembers may let her go right through, but, there are a few that may stop her and not let her ride. It is just one of those things where you never know. I'd definitely hate to tell you that they would allow her, since it is such a small difference, and then you wait in line and find out they won't.

There is a ton to do at Disney, she is a little young for a few rides. There are so many more rides for her to enjoy that she won't even miss the one's she can't ride yet. Plus, that gives her something to look forward to on the next trip!

first you might consider Why they might be so picky about height. I believe it's a clear safety issue. they design the rides for certain heights, not for age maturity. would you possibility want to put your daughter on a ride for 40" or taller, and risk her being injured for a 2 or 3 minute thrill? put it all in perspective please. besides, how would you like to wait in line over an hour, she has her hopes up with anticipation and then they turn you away. have your family vacation, create wonderful memories but don't try to "sneak" her in some ride that has not been created for her size.

forget about whether they will be picky Do you want to be picky about your child's safety for the sake of a stupid ride? People do die on those things due to inappropriate size for the ride. I would self enforce the rule in case some dumb teenager or other non interested attendant doesn't care. Sorry I have to say it for safety's sake Now Ill "get off the page". Yes, there is a measurement bar at the entrance of every ride that has a height restriction. They are in fact very picky, if your child doesnt reach the required height on the measurement bar then the Cast Member wont let your child on the ride. Like mentioned previously, if the Cast Member is not picky then their not doing their job.

Yes they are generally very picky about height. There are some rides that will be dangerous for those under the height restriction. And I have taken a youngster to DW and they were disappointed when they could not ride something. However most of those with height restrictions (for a 4year old anyways) are rides they may not care to ride anyways.

for the MK I know that Space Mountain, Big thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain (the on my kiddo wanted to ride) and maybe the rockets in tomorrow land have height limits. Contact Disney and they can provide you with a list of all attractions with height restrictions.

Note: for parents who want to ride the rides that their kids are too short for they have a switch off system so you can ride and your spouse can wait with the child and then he gets to ride as soon as you get off. This way your child can stay with you and you can make a game of it for them by catching a picture of mom or dad when they get off the fast ride. This helped us a lot and save a lot of time. Plus so much a Disney is the atmosphere. Even when you are in line and the kids getting to share in that is nice.

all theme parks are careful about height restrictions due to safety issues. if she's too small, she can't ride.

Yes, they will be picky, and yes, they will stop you from riding if she is 1/2" too short. They are not willing to take chances on safety. There are many, many rides to enjoy where height will not be an issue.

i was actually thinking the same thing and like you thought nothing of it...after reading these answers there is a definite safety issue and i won't buy platform shoes for my 5 year old shortie!

Im not sure if you .5 off. They might be, I live in florida and for my birthday go to disney every year, But yeah, fallow tera's advice, also im sure there are some sandle for 4 year olds that can add some hight, look at kohls or something like that. ;-)

Probably not, i dont think that 1/2 an inch will matter to them that much!

Buy a pair of those shoes with the rollers in the heel. You know the ones that let kids slide around. They add at least 1.5"!
