Besides shopping, what is there to do in Chicago?

I've been to Chicago several times in the past, but I always find myself on Michigan Avenue shopping, or I am competing in a dance competiton. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for my upcoming trip. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Medieval Times
Arlington Park
Shedd Aquarium
Brookfield Zoo
art and history museums

Quite a lot actually. Chicago is full of things to do and see. I'll be up there in June, and I don't think I'll be doing any shopping, lol.

You sound young, late teens maybe? You might enjoy venturing beyond the downtown area. Just hop on the Red line northward (in the direction of Howard) and get off at the Belmont stop. Walk eastward after you get off, and you'll find countless things to see and browse. A lot of the time, I just window-shop; I don't actually buy. Try a new cuisine. Enjoy some hookah. :)

There are PLENTY of other neighborhoods to check out, too, depending on your interests. Chicago is, after all, the city of neighborhoods.

go on a bot ride or a dinner cruse go to the sears tower

Sightseeing in the neighborhoods (Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, Lake View, Wrigleyville), museums, hanging out in Grant Park, seeing a play in a small theater, going to a comedy club, checking out a new restaurant, riding a tour bus or boat, walking around Navy Pier, listenting to live music... etc. etc etc.

There's about a million things to do here on any given day.

you've already got my suggestions by some of the others,, but maybe spend a little time on the beach watching the water is so magnificent !! Also note the diversity of the city no one trips with you over anything it's truely one of the most accepting cities i've ever seen !!! But please make sure to enjoy the lake while you're here !!

If you like to dance then hit some of the clubs. I just came from one lastnite that was jumpin until 4:00 am.
Or you could go to the Museum. (so boring :( )

Go see the Cubbies! Best time you'll have at a ballpark without actually watching a baseball game. Well, OK, if you like baseball then go ahead and watch the game, but it's not required. Be sure to get a "Bob Chinn's" Mai Tai and sit in the bleachers for maximum people-watching entertainment. The people in the stands are too stuffy and not as much fun.

After the game, walk east on Addison to Halsted and then north to the Kit Kat Klub. Drag queens lip synch to the hits and you can get a cocktail or ten. Highly entertaining.
