Best US state? |
I've asked what would be the most boring US state, but what would be the best? Oh, and don't just states like California and Florida, think outside the square. |

EDIT: I've lived in Utah, Ohio, and California. Have traveled through 40 of the 50 states.
Utah.
Four balanced seasons that are all beautiful.
From north to south (5 hour drive) you can see mountains, deserts, lakes, streams, pine trees, cactus, deer, rabbits, farms, sandstone cliffs, and more.

My heart lies in Montana. I love the outdoors there are so many wondrous panoramic views. Lot's to see & do. Missoula is the HQ for famous smoke jumpers. Plus I'm a little biased, Montana is my home state. |

Texas, baby! It's the only state that does not give you the "Luxury Tax" every year for things you own free and clear! |

NYC fan

After visiting 49 of them, I might be a bit biased, but I always come back to my home state of New York. There's just such a wide variety of stuff here; you've got the mountains up near the Canadian border, you've got two Great Lakes, the Finger Lakes region is amazing, Niagara Falls is beautiful, you've got farmland, and plenty of great outdoors recreational stuff for everyone. Long Island has its beaches, and I think I'm missing something...
Oh yeah. New York City, the greatest city I've ever visited, and I'm proud to live there. This state has so much more than just New York City, but the city on its own is such a great little mix of just about everything.
Still, New York isn't a runaway favorite; there are many "close seconds," and so hard to choose one over the rest. Alaska this summer was the greatest road trip we've ever taken. I love the Rocky Mountain states, and the southwest. I love the Black Hills region of South Dakota. And yes, I even liked North Dakota. For the south, even something as simple as great barbecue gives it high marks on my list, and there's so much more than just that. The Pacific Northwest and California have given me great memories. New England is a throwback to old-time America. The people of the plains and Midwest have been good to us every time we go through there. I love it all.
But I still think New York is the best.
Still, nice opinion question. Everyone gets a thumbs-up from me here, there are no wrong answers. |

I have been to most of the states. I just spent a weekend in West Virginia. The mountains are beautiful. The streams clean. The people are the most friendly I have seen. The little towns offer festivels every week-end. I have homes in Michigan, Key West and Maryland. They are nice too, but West Virginia I love. |

Vermont. It's off the beaten path. The people are awesome and free thinking. Very affordable and beautiful. It's also the home of Champ, the Nessie-like critter that lives in Lake Champlain. |

Northeast Mississippi. Great weather most of the time. Quiet homes in the country. Not all the crime big states like California, Florida and others have. About 1 to 2 hours from Memphis, if you have to have that taste of the big city sometimes. Just a great place to live. But I'm biased cause I live there. |

Sorry, I have to say California. I don't live in the U.S., but I visit the U.S. at least once a year, and half the time it's to California, the other half are to states like NY, Ohio, Michigan, etc.
California is much nicer than those. |

Oregon or Washington. The Northwest kicks *** for it's natural beauty.
Check out the Olympic Peninsula in Washington to see what I mean.
Oh, and I think Idaho is the WORST US state.
There is NOTHING THERE. I wouldn't even go there for the Silverwood Theme Park, and I LOVE Garfield.
I have to travel through Idaho to visit family and between visiting time and plane time, the ONLY THING TO DO IS EAT OR GO TO THE MALLLLLL!
How DULL!
Sorry, Idaho. |
