Best age to bring kids to Disney World? |
Hey! I have a three year old daughter, and was thinking about planning a family trip to Disney World some time in the future. What would be the best age to bring her? I want her to be able to really enjoy the trip! Thanks |

I would NOT bring any children to Disney World under the age of 6 or 7.
My reason for that is because of what kind of place Disney World is, it's the sort of vacation place that should be enjoyed AND REMEMBERED by those with the capacity to retain such memories. Toddlers, infants, newborns.......they don't get any real enjoyment from the place. They have the same appreciation for Disney World that they would have sitting in a closet at home banging on a pot with a wooden spoon. So not only would they not retain any memories of that trip, but they wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much as they could.
I think it's selfish on a parents' part to bring their toddlers and infants there only so THEY can get joy by snapping photos of their kids who are just enjoying the bright colors and sounds around them, at the expense of the child being able even know where they are, what they're doing, or to remember it all at a later time.
Definitely wait a few more years before you bring her.
(I got back a few months ago from a trip with some friends and they brought their 3 year old son. Needless to say it was extremely irritating with their tantrums and crankiness and constant "mommy, I want this!" at every little turn. Just reinforces my opinion that children of that age shouldn't be brought there.) |

We carried my daughter her first time at the age of 5 - she's now 19 and excited we are going again this year.
Her memories of the first trip are more scarce. I would have waited until about 7. Under this age they tire quickly and you end up pushing or carrying a child. Many of the rides have height restrictions or they will be afraid of them.
If you have a lot of time to spend so that you can go back to your resort in the heat of the day and relax or nap - Maybe 5. If your schedule will be full to try and take in all you can - 7 or older.
Most importantly - when you decide - have fun! |

2-4 if it is the first trip but not the last. 8-10 if you think you will only get to go one time.
As others have said, any age is a good age. I'm 41 and I'm not too old for WDW.
I can't stand the "they won't remember it" excuse for not taking little kids. Guess what they won't remember a lot of this, but we don't keep them in a bare room and avoid interacting with them until they are old enough to remember. Having fun in the moment is what counts. |

I personally think a child should be at least five or better yet seven to fully enjoy Disney World. |

Any age!! I'm 12 and I LOVE Disney World and so does my 21 year old cousin and the rest of my family (youngest is 3 oldest who goes to Disney is 59). If you take her to Disney when she is 3 or older she will remember it. I went last summer and my brother was 3 and he still remembers and talks about it! |

We went for the first time last year. My children were 7, 4 1/2 and 3 1/2. It was total magic for my three and a half year old. We went in August and there hasn't been a day that he hasn't gotten excited talking about it. About 5 days a week he rushes into our room in the morning- jumps on my bed and says, "So, let's talk about Disney World..." It was not as magical for my older children. My youngest loved it so much that we are going back again this year ( and probably next!) |

There is no best age. But-- now is a good time. Disney is offering some of it's best deals right now. 2009 will be a good year to go to Disney and save some money!
But- more to your point. If she likes wild rides, but is too short (48" is the tallest you need to be, many are 44") than wait til she is taller. If she doesn't care about that, then take her now, before she is in school.
In September, Disney is very quiet, offers cheaper rates at it resorts, and is offering free dining. Since she's not in school you can take advantage of that.
You can always go back. ; ) |

She will enjoy parts of the trip now. Of course, it can also be very tiring physically for little ones, so extra care should be taken to make sure she can get mid-day rest so she doesn't get overloaded.
However, if you want her to remember this trip when she grows up, it's probably not the time to go. If this is the first of many trips, I see no problem with taking her now. There is plenty for a three year old to enjoy. If it is the only trip you will be taking in a long time or ever, you should try to wait until she is five or six. |

I would say at about 5 years of age only if you aren't planning on going back anytime soon. |

I'm 13, and I adore Disney to the point of obsession.
Ha ha.
I remember many of my trips there. Even the one when I was as young as 3.
I believe anybody can enjoy Disney regardless of age.
Well, infants maybe not so much.
:P
Good luck! |

I took my kids when they were 4 and 2. The 4 year old has memories and loves the place. She remembers everything and reminds us all the time about how much she loved it hoping we will take her again.
The 2 year old had fun, she didn't seem to really liven up until she saw alot more of the young rides like It's a Small world, pooh bear ride, and the dumbo ride. She doesn't seem to remember as much but when she sees pictures she remembers. I would say 3-5 is a great age to take them. |

ALL ages!
We just got back from a trip to the World with our 9 year old grandson, and our 3 year old granddaughter. It's hard to say who enjoyed it more. My grandson is old enough to be into the rides, and my granddaughter is young enough to totally, completely believe in everything she sees. It was a fantastic trip.
We have gone with the grandkids (and their parents), by ourselves and with my parents, who are both in their 70s, and every single one of us can't wait to go back.
Take the little girl, and make sure to spend lots of time in Fantasyland and Toontown at Magic Kingdom.
Have a wonderful trip! |

Disney World is good for all ages. You may want to check height requirements for the rides if you have specific rides in mind. You can find them on the official walt disney world site. If you are only going to go once, then you may want to wait until they will remember the trip. However, it can still be a pretty great vacation even if they don't remember every little bit.
The question really comes back to the parents. Do you want to deal with diapers there? If not then wait. Do you want to stop for naps? If not then wait. Do you feel it is a waste of time/money/vacation if your kids are not big enough to do everything? If so, wait. Also, consider if your kids will be scared of the characters.
A note on the characters, try some people-like ones first. Like Belle, or the Little Mermaid. To a small kid, Mickey can look like a giant rodent that is missing some fingers. We actually warned our kids for a few weeks ahead of time that Mickey and his friends were HUGE (with the 'so-big' hands) but that they were very cool.
We have been there when our kids were to scared/young to go into the Haunted Mansion, and too short to ride Space Mountain. However, they stood and danced along with the Bear in the Big Blue House, and got up close to the glass in the Living Seas to show us how the fish swim. We have also been there when they were older and took us on the Rockin Roller Coaster 3 times in a row. Each age has it's own disney experience. The question really is, which of these experiences do you want to have?
You know your kids personalities, so you know best how it will work. You can take the kids to a local carnival of some kind to see if they handle rides and shows well. You might want to take the child to a movie so see how he/she reacts when the light go out and the noise comes on. Many of the attractions at WDW are movie-like things that happen in the dark. You also probably know how your kid handles Santa, or other such characters at home.
You will have to slow down some with a small child, so if someone in your group is not child friendly, consider leaving that person behind. But to a 3 year old everything there is real. It is very cool. |

Kallie is,, so confused.

We go to Disney Land or Disney World about once every 2 years and I'm 14 now. I think all ages are great for Disney! If you planned it now it would be good for all the cute little rides like Dumbo and Peter Pan. But if you planned it when shes older like 12 she could go on fun roller coaster and things with you. But also Disney as Wild Animal Park, Epcot (great for older kids like 13), and more! I love Disney! So I would say any age you pick will be the perfect age!
Take pictues Good Luck! |

Oh, you can bring kids of any age. Just make sure that your kids get plenty of sleep before the trip, and during the trip. My parents took my when I was 1, and I have been going ever since, In fact, I can't really ever not going to Disney. I remember very little from when I was three, but I know I was tired all the time. There might be some lines, but you can go in the off season. I suggest going sometime when it is cooler, such as Nov. - Feb. This is the best time to go because it is normally not too hot, humid, or rainy, which can really spoil a kids trip! Just remember to have everything planned out before hand, as this makes going with kids easier, at least that is what my parents say. Also, remember that chances are that she will be four by the time you go, so there should not be much of a problem. There is a ton of stuff for little kids to do at Disney World, especially in the Magic Kingdom. She can meet all of the princesses and Mickey and the rest of the gang. She can ride on Cinderella's Golden Carousel, or go on a flight with Dumbo. So that your little girl can remember the trip, you could take some video or the experiences that she has throughout the trip!
I hope you and the rest of your family have a great trip to the most magical place on earth.
Happy Earth Day!

around 5.
a 3 year old will still be needing a nap in the middle of the day, get tired out easier, need a stroller to be lugged around, and be fussy while waiting in lines and such. plus, she may not be big enough to ride some of the rides. she also may not be able to remember going to disney world at such a young age. take her when she is old enough to appreciate and remember it forever. |
