Best places to visit in CA? |
i'm a 22 year old new college graduate from ohio and would love to visit california sometime in the next year. i have no idea where to even start though! besides the fact that i know next to nothing about most places in CA, i also can't decide if i'd rather go to the beach, a big city, smaller town, etc.
sooo i was hoping all of you could give me some of your opinions. what are some of your favorite places to visit and WHY? what is it that makes these places special for you? and where don't you like and why?
i like to do a variety of things...i love relaxing on the beach/by the pool, shoppnig, sight seeing, just relaxing, going to museums, meeting locals, and the list could go on. obviously i don't expect to find all of this in one place but i just wanted to give you a little idea of a mix of things i like to do when i travel.
i'm very open to all opinions!! thanks for your help! |

My favorite place to visit in California is the LA area. There is so much to do. If you like amusement parks, there is Disneyland, Six Flags, Universal Studios and Knotts Berry Farm all close. Of course there is Hollywood. You can see sunset Blvd and look at the stores on Rodeo Drive. See the Hollywood sign. I once got to see a pilot episode of a new show as an audience member. I just signed up at Universal Studios.
There are beautiful beaches. I love Huntington and Newport beaches. If you want to get away from all the traffic for a while, go down to Long Beach Harbor and get a ticket for the ferry to Catalina Island. It's beautiful and there aren't many cars. That's where my wife and I went on our honeymoon.
There is tons to do, lots of famous people and places plus you can't beat the weather! |

Santa Barbara is a small beach town, with UCSB..........
so LOTS of college kids...
They have the best 7/4 fireworks and streets lined with quaint shops and cafes.
The trolley will take you to and from the pier..
the pier hosts LONGBOARDS which is a real hot spot, where you take hanfulls of peanuts out of this barrel and while you eat them you thrown the shells on the floor.
The patio is ON the water....Lots of fun....
A beautiful and scenic drive to get there as well. |

If you're looking for lots to do and a large social scene go to LA. If you don't mind road tripping it through wine country or seeing the breathtaking scenery and great culture go to San Francisco. If you want some great weather and beach time head to San Diego! Happy travels!!!
PS. San Francisco is my favorite! |

Santa Monica Pier for sure! Its a must, make sure to look into times it opens and closes. Its sucha beautiful area during the mornings or at night, mornings you'll see all the runners (tons of them!!) in the evening you'll see the night crowd. Another awesome spot is Largo venue
http://www.largo-la.com/largohome.html
I just noticed on the site they have moved, but no doubt still an awesome place for comfortable place to hang out , dinner and a show.
Catch a Dodger game!! Woo HOO! thats a Los Angeles "MuST" Whether they win or lose, the fans are fun (please, do not wear another team, itf you do make sure to have someone strong and big with you) :) Gotta love dodger fans.
Citywalk and catch a show at Universal Amphitheater
or
The Greek theater, absolutely beautiful!!!!
Make time to drive up and down Hwy 1, Pacific Coast Fwy!
If you don't know anyone there, check up with groups like
meetup.com and meetin.com let them know you are new and wouldn't mind meeting new people while there.
Good luck and let me know if you have anyother questions! :) |

The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, San Francisco has all kinds of things to do and see, great restaurants like the Cliff House where you can dine while on top of the cliff and look down at the ocean below. These are just a few and they are relatively close to one another. You'd have a blast! |

Yosemite Nat'l Park in central Ca.
See Ansel Adams photo's for reason.
San Francisco, downtown (the Embarcadero?) and tour nightlife by Trolley.
Universal Studios in So Cal, it's a great party place as well as studio tours.
The Magic Castle in Hollywood, get tickets early, they 'are spendy' but well worth it.
Malibu beach, if you're into star(lett)s homes
Disneyland, the original w/hotel across the street that uses overhead tram to get into the park.
San Diego Wild Animal Park and SeaWorld and Old Town!
and for a spendy 6 course 2 hour meal try DePalma's Italian Village near Corona. Reservations may be as much as 9 months in advance.
Keep in mind these span about 400 miles from North to South |

san francisco is just plain amazing. it makes you feel happy.
also try checking out small suburban towns, i know it may sound boring, but there's always things to do there :]
of course most people want to go to hollywood, which is fun to visit, for like a day. afterwards it gets a bit boring, and you don't see stars 24/7.
san deigo is also a really pretty city
Venice City! you need to go there. it's fun and tacky in a good way. and it's a beach which is a plus :] |

I live in Fresno,Ca, which is in the heart of California also known as the Central Valley. There are a lot of beautiful places here to visit. If your interested in the big city life, then Los Angeles (L.A) is really cool, thats where all the celebrity's are. There is also Hollywood and Beverly Hills which are both located within the city of L.A. Then if your interested in going to the beach, then Orange County is really nice, Laguna Beach is a favorite of mine also. There is San Fransisco, which is beautiful, and known for the Golden Gate Bridge. They also have a lot of nice beaches. There are also a lot of museums to see. I hope you get to come here and see everything that we have to offer, good luck to you in your traveling.
Oh yeah just to let you know I wouldn't want to come in the summer time it gets really hot here, sometimes up to 105 or higher. Good Luck! |

Big Sur is a beautiful place to go, I camped there and loved it! Also Yosemite. Yosemite was amazing so much stuff to do there! Or you know you could go to Hollywood. That's always fun, with all the historical stuff, or even to party. Or San Fransisco has tons of stuff to do, from places to camp to shop. Then of course the amusement parks in California rock! There's Disneyland, Sixflags, Knotts, Universal Studios or City Walk. |

I live in Fresno, CA and it is a smallish farm town. I doubt you would want to come here because most people that are here don't want to be here. I like travelling to LA or San Francisco. |
