Hi there. Well, I don't live in NYC, but I've been there several times. If you are very adventurous, fine with asking for directions and help, and safety-minded enough to recognize and avoid unsafe areas, then you should go for it! If this isn't you, then don't do it. There are so many things to learn... the biggest is the subway system...
NYC is amazing though. There is so much to see and do, and it will be the experience of a lifetime!!!
I hope you don't get homesick too easily. You'll be pretty far from your family and friends... |

Have fun finding affordable rent, though |

if you can afford the rent, and if your landlord doesnt mind your 18, learn your area and be careful |

To even pay rent in NYC you'll need to have a roommate. It's very expensive to live there. If you're worried about crime rate, I'd pick somewhere like the Lower East Side. Cheaper than Upper East Side, safer than the West Side. I have no idea where NYU or Columbia is, though, so I don't know what your commute to school would be like should you choose to live there. |

You sure can! Good luck! It won't be easy being away from home but I'm sure you'll do fine. I wish I could go to NYC!! Good luck and welcome to the US!! |

I hope you are really rich because you need a lot to rent. But yes you can live there alone, you are an adult at 18 although you can't drink alcohol until you are 21 |

Thousands of freshmen do this every year! So no problem. In fact, no real difference between this and going to study in London.
But the costs are high. Rent is high but the fees are even higher. Remember, you will to get a visa first. |

yes dont listen to the people who say no, they are wrong. at 18 you can move to NYC on your own!But i wouldnt recomend it!
it is expensive and learn the city, parts of NYC are very dangerous and make sure where you are moving is safe. NYC can be very scary when you are by yourself! |

if you go to school, you will be just fine. NY is amazing! coming here will change your life forever and i mean in a very good way. depending on your personality, you won't know what it is like living away from your family. i remember when i first moved out, it was a relief!!! and i actually like my family. i couldn't WAIT to be on my own.
be prepared to live like a poor student as ny is very expensive (unless you have a trust fund!)
also, those are two of the best schools in america, so expect to study a lot.
you will find it easy to make friends being in school. especially with a british accent. we love it!
good luck
(i'm actually moving back to NY after 6 years on the west coast and i can't wait!) |

If you love exploring, trying new things, having a totally new experience, then its fine. BUT you should first live on campus for a bit or one of those campus apartments, get some friends and have them show you around.
Going to a totally new place is a wonderful experience and you'll meet new people and basically add something great to your life's experience. |

Not unless you have PLENTY of money to keep you safer. |

NYC is one of THE most expensive cities to live in-do you know what you are getting yourself into? Also it would be difficult to obtain an apartment by yourself at 18. |
|
