only paul gave you the right answer. Miami sits in miami-dade county. It was dade county many years ago before it became miami-dade. If anyone tells you different it means they aren't a local. |

The Miami Dade Police is actually the Dade County Sheriffs Office. Their charter was changed to become a police organization, hence the name change. Before this they were called Metro Dade. But, Miami is a city in Dade County, it has its own government and police force. The name change was made to reflect the unincorporated parts of the county that had been come developed recently and give them sufficient police protection. By changing to Miami Dade County, they unincorporated areas could now be assigned postal codes and recieve government services, like streets and water. It also gave uniform quality amongst police departments inside the county. |
