YES on both:
Little Diomede Island is part of Alaska. Big Diomede Island is part of Russia. The two are roughly two miles apart.
This photo shows both:

Check your facts. As Sarah Palin correctly stated, and I quote (one should never misrepresent quotes...not that anyone here would ever do that, right? Shame.):
"...you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."
Of course, that island she refers to is Little Diomede Island. It's amazing to be able to see a place just two miles away that is always a day ahead, isn't it?
I will strongly resist the urge to begin a political rant here, though that urge is very, very strong. |

Yes, you can.
Edit: Isn't it amazing how quickly the flock of followers jumped on this, absolutely sure that it couldn't be true? |

There are supposed hills from which you can see the Russian mainland from the Alaskan mainland.
You make stick out your tongue at those who say a mere 35 miles is too great a distance to see land over water. I have worked overlooking Lake Ontario at a point 18 miles east of the Niagara River and have been able to see Toronto, notably the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre, to use it's proper spelling, from there, a distance of nearly 40 miles.
Yes, the sides of the Straits of Gibraltar are intervisible. Contact me for one more such question that may surprise people. |

As a few people have noted, yes, it is possible.
Re the Spain question, yes, you can see Morocco from Spain. |

Yes, You can.
Look it up on google, You'll find russia is only 55 miles away, and there is a race every winter from russia too alaska across the frozen ocean.
To the morons above me who said "No", Get your facts straight.
Thanks, Jp. |

Yes you can see the tip of Russia from Alaska. On a summer, cloudless day and with good binoculars you can see the tip of Russia. Also from Spain you can see Morocco in Africa. It seems like a lot of people on here don't no geography very well. |

Hahaha, no you can't see Russia from Alaska. Sarah Palin is an idiot.
ETA: Hmmmm, well I concede defeat! I can't see Russia from my window, and the island where you can see it is barely populated. I was right about one thing though, Sarah Palin is an idiot. :) |
