Can you tell me what to wear in San Francisco ...?

I am going there (visiting from L.A.) at the end of this week (8/29/07). I know it will be cooler there and I know about "layering" my clothing ... but would it be ridiculous to wear my boots (like Uggs) out at nightime? Would that just look silly? I know I will be cold at night when I am there, but it IS still August. What do you think?
Additional Details
Thanks for the serious answers. I wasn't asking for a critique on my shoe choice ... I don't even own Uggs (not that I am opposed to them), I just used them as an example. I am sure it will be alot colder there than L.A. (yes, I look at the weather channel) ... just wondered if people are seeing boots at night there yet. Thanks.

it's ridiculous to wear uggs ANYtime.

if you're driving up from LA on the 5, remember that the bay bridge will be closed, so take 152 to gilroy and come up 101.

The weather is going to be a bit chillier by the end of this week (the 50s at night). Any kind of boots would be fine in the evening, and would not look silly.

As you'll probably notice when you get here, people wear all kinds of clothes, day or night; there's no fashion judgment here.

Definitely layers--a light jacket.
Every time I've been to SF, no matter how hot may be in the day, the temperature drops significantly when the late afternoon/evening rolls around and it gets quite chilly.

Uggs would be too much for SF in the evening. It hasn't been that cold in the evening in the SF Bay Area. It has gotten windy though.

Just bring a pair of closed toe shoes & you will be fine.

S.F. is a liberal city. You should wear what you are comfortable in. Of course, your dress would be appropriate to what you are doing at night: ie: Opera, fancier restaurants etc.
We are in the beginning of a 3 day heat wave (Tues-Wed.-Thurs) then the fog will roll in. So it can be chilly and windy, especially at night.
Mark Twain said: "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco".
Weather can be different in various areas. The Mission district is warmer. Downtown is warmer than out by the beach, but also windy which affects the chill factor.
Hope you have a good time!

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.

On a more serious note, I was there two weeks ago and it was definitely chilly at night, like in the mid 50's. I was wearing a light jacket and it was barely enough. Boots wouldn't be that silly as it's pretty damn cold there at night.

Do you get a newspaper? You can see the weather reports of every city in the world on the weather page. Look at it each day and you decide.
