Chicago, Ever Been?? |
I was thinking about moving to Chicago, but I'm not exactly sure how its up there? Did you go and did you like it? Is it hard to find a job?? I came from Europe, and I didn't go to College here, so as hard as it is right now with my job, is it really hard with jobs in Chicago?
I live in Kentucky right now, and I want a change! If Chicago isn't the best choice, then what do you think. |

Chicago is quite a diverse city, so you should be able to find a neighborhood with a concentrated population for your ethnicity. It can be hard to find a job, depending on the field in which you're looking to enter. Its quite a bit expensive to live in some parts of the city, like Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, Streeterville, and pretty much anywhere in the downtown area. You should try places like Wrigleyville, Ravenswood, Wicker Park--these places are a little cheaper and have a younger demographic.
As far is the nightlife is concerned, there's plenty of it. The club scene is downtown (Rush & Division, for example), or you can visit the bar scene in both Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville. There's so much more, so I suggest you take a look at this link: http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/
It also snows a lot in the winter and gets very hot in the summer. There's a lot of traffic and construction, and the public transportation system is a far cry from the one in New York. Some parts of the city are rough, but plenty are just working-class neighborhoods.
I've lived in & near Chicago for 25 years, and honestly, of all the big cities, there's nowhere else I would rather be. |

I've been living in Chicago for over two years (moved here after college), and my experience is that it's a fantastic place to be a young professional. You'll want to make sure you live in a nice neighborhood (there are great FREE apartment finding services to help you find what you're looking for--and they drive you around!), and seriously consider whether you want to bring your car. Traffic is horrible, and parking is usually a hassle or expensive. Luckily, the public transit system is one of the best in the country.
There are tons of career opportunities here as well. It's a bit more difficult to find a job for someone who hasn't yet relocated, so I recommend staffing agencies to all of my friends moving to the city.
Definitely check Chicago out, as it's one of America's finest cities! |

There are many jobs in Chicago, especially if you have a skill of any kind. Chicago is one of the better large cities with a very diverse culture and world class museums. You didn't say where in Europe but I guarantee you that there are many from your country in Chicago |

You might want to spend a weekend here looking at appartments and seeing the city first. That might help you decide. Chicago has lots of jobs especially if you are in sales or in finance. There are also a lot of retail and hotel jobs in the city because of the tourism and the conventions that come to town all the time. The city is pretty spread out so there is a lot of variety depending on what neighborhood or what suburb you are in. If you live in downtown or north in the city you don;t need a car, but if you live anywhere else you do, because people drive everywhere. |

Chicago is alright. about finding a job depends what you want. of course getting a job at mc Donald's or payless cant be hard. Chicago is a great place to move to if you like all 4 seasons because it has all 4 seasons. depends where you live. if you live downtown Chicago it s great, but kinda expensive. if you live on the northwest side it s also great there. well if you wanna move to Chicago i would first visit the city for a week. i think it s great. |

I live in a suburb of Chicago, so I've been there many times...but not nearly enough!
I plan on moving there in the next year or so. There are so many things to like about it! Some include: The MCA, The Field Museum, Shed Aquarium, Brookfield Zoo, Lincoln Park Zoo, Millennium Park, shopping, thrifting, just walking and enjoying the atmosphere...also there are tons of bars, clubs, places to meet people. There's always something to do!
It's a big city, so there are tons of oppurtunities for jobs. Probably a lot more than Kentucky.
But Chicago isn't for everybody. I know some who say they hate it. The winters get really cold. Things can get really dangerous if you step into the wrong neighborhood. Personally, I don't mind though...the city looks beautiful in the Winter, and every big city has a ghetto. |

I've visited Chicago and I thought it was nice enough. I didn't like all the traffic! I would go back for another visit because there is a lot to see and do there, but I would not want to live there as I do not like big cities. I live in a rural area of Western Kentucky so I am not used to all the traffic and just didn't like it. I don't know what the job market is like in Chicago. Good luck! |

Chicago is very welcoming to people from Europe, we are a city of immigrants. If you are well qualified, there are plenty of jobs here. Are you ready for winter, though? We don't kid around! |

It is a happening place. You would love the place. Compared to Kentucky you will find the living very expensive. You will certainly get some job. If you are young you should move to this place. |

I have lived here my whole life. Its a very big Metropolitan center and has MANY suburbs. Jobs are fairly easy to find as long as you have some kind of skill or connections. The women are fantastic and the city life is worth the money if you can afford it. All in all, as Frank Sinatra says, "Its my kinda town" |

I have been in Chicago a few times but I haven't lived there. Chicago is a big busy city with a lot
of history. It is noisy, dirty and sometimes dangerous. If you like the snow then you will
probably like Chicago. |
