Detroit danger (pt.2)?

i already asked this question but i need to be a bit more specific...so would it be safe for three seventeen year old girls to go to a concert at St. Andrew's hall in Detroit at around 6 - 10:30pm by themselves?
Additional Details
this is mostly directed towards Joyce but um as far as praising the lord goes it's not a club, it's a christian concert. and to anyone who thinks i'm just a white girl from the suburbs who doesn't know any better than to think detroit is full of robbers and rapists, has got it all wrong. it's the same as any other city i know, i just wanted to know if that area is ok or if it's a place to be avoided. thanks for all your answers 8)

okay, i used to go to detroit when i was your age all the time - granted that was a good 20 years ago and many things have changed - however some things havent.

1) park in a well lit area and keep to the main street TOGETHER
2) don't take a big purse or wear lots of flashy jewerly or spikey heels (this way you won't draw unwanted attention)
3) know where you are going - relax and enjoy walking through the area but don't be too confident - keep your eyes open and walk with confidence
4) WHEN (notice i didn't say if) a group of guys comments or such - just keep walking at the same pace. don't antagonize them or get all jittery - that's what they are looking for - attention
5) keep a cell phone handy (mine was like the size of a small shoebox back then LOL)
6) have a fairly full tank of gas (seriously)
7) don't drive too fancy a car
8) have a great time!!!

I used to live right around the corner from St. Andrews and used to go there every weekend just about.

You will be perfectly fine at St. Andrews. You're right near the casino and Greektown and the Ren Cen and this area is highly patrolled by cops. But there aren't really any thugs who hang out downtown. They tend to stay within their own inner city neighborhoods. You may encounter the occasional homeless person, but they won't bother you.

Go to St. Andrews and have a blast! You'll be fine!
Trust me! I grew up in Detroit and I know the bad parts and the good and this is definitely one of the good parts.

Have fun.

Youd be fine. St Andrews is right downtown, not a bad area. I am a white chick in my early 20's & go to worse areas by myself since i was 17 as well.

I would as long as they stayed in a group and if they are familiar with where they are going. You don't want to get lost down there that late at night, but other than that it should be okay.

Honestly, I would let my 15 year old go.

If they have lived in the city all their lives and have a few options on how to get home and numerous ways to get in contact with people I wouldn't be too worried.

I would be more worried about my children in a small town than in a city like the "D."

Mopar Muscle Gal
yes but dont leave with any strange guy
have someone's folks drop them off and pick them up after the concert

The hall itself if ok and parking should be fine but I would not letting anyone wander around the city at night if they are not from there.

Big Joey
Yes u will be safe

are they white girls from Bloomfield hills? If so, do not act like a sissy or get into a stretch hummer with a bunch of thugs. Heheh. Just kidding. I used to hang out down there all the time – like 10 years ago. 3 Floors of Fun. 6 p.m. is very early. Don't dress too revealing either.. Don't wanna give anyone the wrong impression. Up to you.

beautynsmartz
They will be fine. I promise I wont rob them. Or any of my family members. Thats what you paranoid caucasians think anyway.

Miss independent
I'd suggest you go with a male adult just for your comfort needs. If you feel as if you need to post this on yahoo answers, then differently bring someone you feel safe with.
Detroit is not bad. But if you stay until the sun goes down, then that's when you're in other peoples area and you'll just look like three rich white girls who don't know where they're at.

Mr Big
Why not, they probably sneak in Detroit for other stuff you don't know about anyway. Girls will be girls I guess.

Mr. Knowledgeable VI
I would not suggest anyone to walk alone at nighttime around Detroit because the city is not safe.

They are too young to be going downtown alone at night.

The problem is not driving down there, and is not going to the concert but finding a parking spot and then going back to the car after the concert was over, especially if they have to park several blocks away on a badly lighted street walking alone.

On the other hand, a baseball game on a Saturday afternoon that starts at 1pm and ends around 5pm is perfectly fine since its still light out when they are leaving!

The girls are an easy target, not only to be robbed, but then you also got to worry about rape. Someone is alot less likely to mess with (3) boys, and even if someone did the worst that could happen is someone would try to rob them.

The other thing to consider here, is that the girls probably do not live in Detroit and are not aware of all the crap that goes on in the city at night like someone who is down there all the time.

No it is not safe. Bad things happen in Detroit at night. Bad things happen inside of clubs where drunken fools are gathered looking to start trouble. Instead of looking for a club to go to why don't you and your friends try going to church and praising the Lord. Call on the name of Jesus and praise his holy name.
