It's a baby step. We can't all learn to walk until we take those first steps. I'm all for burying that word, and I don't think rap stars should use it, because it is self-debasing and racist.
I don't believe in censorship so, if anyone wants to use that word, they should feel free to do so. But wouldn't it be great if we forgot all of the racial slurs and treated each other like equal human beings? |

Not as long as there are people listening to rap and black comedians. They use the word more than anyone else. |

Silly silly silly. It really is rediculous. Im not racist at all, but could you imagine if caucasions had a parade in Detroit to put the word "cracker" or "honky" or some other variant of name calling for caucasion people to rest? I bet we would be the laughing stock and called racists on top of it.
"Sorry boss, I can't come into work today, I gotta go to a funeral for a word." |

I did not attend but only heard about it on the news. Honestly, this will not change a thing. Hip hop has to be ready to change. If people look at the history of rap music, they will realize that the use of the 'n' word, calling women b's and such will eventually fade. Where is gangsta rap, right now? As soon as people stop buying degrading music, it will change. Until then the record labels, producers, radio and tv will continue to promote it because they are trying to make $$. Young people have to stand up for what's right and stop being suckers by falling into the trap of 'bling' and 'hoes'. Expect more from your music, yourself and your community. |

now with the "n" word finally out of the way..... I the one and only "cracker" with some help from my friend "white boy" will finally be able to rule the world of racist remarks without any competition |

This won't change anything because ignorant people will still use the degrading word. |

No, because theres still a lot of ignorant people that exist in the world. So after having that funeral for that word we should be expecting the rise from the dead. |

NOPE... NOT NEVER NOW OR EVER...
I think the whole thing is REDICULOUS... and I promise to use NI**ER more now than ever, just because some politically correct moron is telling me I can' use. |

I wonder if they also protested anti-Semetic words, homophobic words and anti-asian, anti-hispanic words as well. Or, was it just the n-word?
Maybe other groups in this country don't count as much? |

People will use the word regardless of things....people use it in every city/state too, not just Detroit. If they don't use that word, then they use other racist terms as well as we all know. This whole funeral thing will not change anything, racism WILL not go away.....it will exist for as long as people start accepting people that "are different" than them. |

Wow, I didn't hear about that. But there are too many people that are still going to be using that word. I really don't think things will change until we hit peoples pockets.
What I mean by that is, if people stop buying songs or movies with the word in it, this will basically force the people saying it, to find another word to use, because they aren't making any money. |

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. No it won't change a thing. I don't use the N word. I don't care if people use the N word. I don't care what words people use. People should be able to say whatever they want as long as they don't threaten someone else.
Very few people use the word and then defend it by saying that there is some cultural right to the word which makes no sense to me. People will always use words that other's don't approve of. |

No, I did not for two reasons:
1. I live very far from Detroit.
2. I didn't know there was a funeral.
To answer your other question, no, I don't think it's going to change anything but also, I don't think it's a waste of time and money. It's a way to protest. |
