As stated already, you do not have to stay at a Disney resort to have a Character Breakfast. We often stay off-site and always do these breakfasts. I don't think that they are very expensive, and the kids really love them. You do need a reservation, and I would call as soon as you know what you want to do. Here are the breakfasts I know of:
In the Parks (requires a park ticket for admission):
1. Cinderella's Royal Table: Princess breakfast. This books very quickly. Make your reservation 180 days out or keep calling and hope for a cancelation. Magic Kingdom.
2. Crystal Palace: Winnie the Pooh and friends. My kids favorite breakfast location at Disney. Magic Kingdom.
3. Play and Dine: Playhouse Disney characters. Disney Hollywood Studios.
4. Akershus: Princess breakfast. Doesn't book as fast as Cinderella's Royal Table, but has Princesses. Epcot.
5. Donald's Safari Breakfast: Donald Duck and other Disney classics. At Tusker House in the Animal Kingdom.
In the resorts (no ticket required):
1. Chef Mickey's: Mickey and the gang. Very popular. At the Contemperary Resort.
2. Ohana: Lilo and Stitch. Good food. At the Polynesian Resort.
3. Cape May Cafe: Goofy and friends. At the Beach Club resort.
4. 1900 Park Fare: Mary Poppins and friends. At the Grand Floridian.
I hope this helps you decide. I never seem to have the time to make all my reservations, so I use a trip planning service to help out. They are called Custom Mouse Plans. they create our itinerary, touring plans, and make our dining reservations. I would not go to Disney without them!
Have a great trip! |

Anyone can dine with the characters - you don't have to be staying at a Disney resort.
I suggest makingreservations as early as possible - you can do it 180 days in advance and some of the character dining experiences are VERY popular and hard to get.
Good luck! (see link below for more info) |

You don't have to be a hotel guest to make reservations at a Disney hotel for any meal. Of course, you will have to have tickets to the theme park if you want to have a meal inside one of them.
Character breakfasts are very popular and limited in seating. I definitely recommend calling as soon as you know when and where you want to go. Some of the character meals sell out as early as 180 days prior.
Here is the link for Disney Dining Finder. You can also call 407-WDW-DINE for any information you have about Disney Dining.

You don't have to be a Disney resort guest, but you do need park admission for the day of your meal. That is considering the meal is in a park restaurant. There are Character meals in select resort restaurants. |

Anyone can do character dining. If you go to the Disney website, and put in Character Dining, it will bring you a full page of choices, both of where to dine and which characters are there. (click on the links of each restaurant for full info)
The link below will bring you to the page I mentioned |

Anyone can attend (and pay big bucks) for a character breakfast. You make a reservation just like at any resturant. The characters walk around and children get their autographs. We have been to several and we think the breakfast at the Poly hotel is the best. It is with Lilo and stitch. Also, chef mickey at the comp. hotel is GREAT! |

anyone can pay for it and go. I would recommend disney hotels though. you can get one for $89 a night and that is prob better than wherever else you can stay, esp since you wont have to fight traffic in everyday and out every night, you get magic hours that are priceless because lines are shorter, and you have the magic of their themed resorts. If you get a character breakfast and only one I would do either chef mickeys or 1900 park fare. If you want princesses Akershus at Epcot is Fantastic food!!! It is SOOO much better than Cinderella's royal table and the same princesses. Goodluck and have a great time. |

Some restaurants have character breakfast you will just need to book them in advance. For the most part the characters just come around to each of the tables and signs autographs and take pictures. However depending on the age of the kid they have a ball any way. |

You do not need to stay in a Disney hotel, though I would much recommend staying in one anyways. Chef Mickey's has the best one. The characters come to your table and you take pictures with them and stuff. Have fun! |

Hiya! I took my sister to Disneyland Paris last year. We had breakfast with the characters- it was sooo cool! We were staying in a Disney hotel but it wasn't essential!
Basically you go into Disney Village & go to the restaurant & you can just book it there & then (i would advise that you book in advance because some people got turned away as it was too busy! There were a few crying kiddies!).
You go in, get your breakie & sit at one of the tables (just like a normal restaurant). Then after about 5 mins some characters come out. They come to each table so thats the time for autographs or photos or whatever. Then they move onto the next table. After they have visited each table- they go out the back & a few minutes later- more characters come out. We had Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Eeyore, Chip & Dale & Prince John (from Robin Hood) at ours.
I highly reccomend it!
It was also my sister's birthday so for about 17euros we paid for a Disney birthday cake. The whole place sang Happy Birthday to her & Mickey brought her cake over! It was her 14th Birthday so she was really embarassed but she loved it anyway & it's something she'll always remember!♥ღ♥ |

Umm well when I went to Disney, I stayed in the park and I went to the Disney Character Breakfast.
I think you do have to stay in the park because the park opens about an hour earlier for the people who stay in Disney |

Personally having breakfast with Disney sounds like a nightmare. My kids would have been traumatised.
Now Asterix or Foghorn Leghorn that would be a different matter.
Disney is about making money so what ever happens you will end up paying. |
