Hurricane season is June 1 - November 30. Most people just don't seem to know that Hurricane season is actually half of the year. August and September are the most active months of the tropical season. In 2004, Orlando got three hurricanes in August and September. I'm not sure where some of the previous answerers got their information, but all Florida residents know when hurricane season is.
Orange county changed when school starts last year. It's no longer starting in early August. School doesn't start for Orange county schools until August 18 this year. You will not miss the local crowd as one previous poster said.
With that out of the way, there is no way anyone can predict if there will be a hurricane this August. If everyone thought they shouldn't come while it was hurricane season, the theme parks would be empty all summer long. That is not the case. Summer is packed with people because that is when school is out. Expect high temps - usually in the low - mid 90s with heat indexes near or over 100. Humidity is very high. Thunderstorms are almost daily. It's miserable. The crowds are bad. If you aren't used to very hot sun and humidity, you are probably going to be miserable. Make sure you take plenty of breaks in the AC and drink lots of water. Also, load up on sunscreen and plan to take nap/swim breaks. |

Who are these people telling you that August is not hurricane season? They must not live here. That happens to be well into the season which begins June 1 and ends November 30, but we have had storms later in the year. We here in Central FL were hit with 3 major hurricanes in 2004 between August 13- September 28. Cruises are even cheaper this time of year because of the possibility of a storm.
August is hot & humid, but afternoon thunderstorms cool things off. Best bet is to hit the parks when they open and take bottled water with you (you are allowed to take drinks into the park but not a cooler).
Sorry if I am ranting but those people who say August is not hurricane season did not have two trees on their roof and no power for a total of 3 weeks in August/September 2004.............. |

It is what it is

we usually get a little bit windy during august but its still really hot and humid but anytime during the year itd be the same. as for hurricanes theres no way to tell by now.... it could happen or it could not.... the crowds are always bad but u can get the fastpass and skip most lines, also thats the week b4 kids start school so it shouldnt be THAT crowded..... so just go and have fun i recomend going to the waterparks that way u dont feel the heat and if u dont then i recommend u buy one of those fans that u can put water in for each person in ur family cuz when ur stuck in line the only thing ur thinkin about is "why didnt i buy those fans!" |

About that time this past fall I drove past a Bank clock thing that said it was 117 degrees outside. Now, imagine being on hot pavement crammed between thousands of other people (Magic Kingdom is the smallest park and holds around 60,000 people before being full).
August usually doesn't get totally packed, but it gets close.
It is also during the rainy season and Orlando has gotten a few hurricanes in the past (few and far between). If rain is in the forcast, plan on high humidity. |

ya august isnt the best time to go there are hurricanes in the summer but that shouldnt stop u verry unlikely that one will come when ur there. it is hot but shouldnt get hotter than 90 which is hot but could be as low as75 or so its not to bad, shorts and t-shirt. the crowds are busy but prob not any longer than an hour wait for rides but if u can handle the temp go on the rides that are hot when its hot and it shouldnt be as busy and dont eat at lunch time eat either early or a few hours late. |

There is a possibility that there will be a hurricane but you can't really predict the weather. And it's very possible that if there is a hurricane, Orlando will feel some effects simply because Florida so narrow.
Going to Disney Land in August is going to be miserable. My sister took her family in April and she said it was already so hot down there, the kids complained and they didn't have such a great time.
And the crowd will be huge because it's officially summer and that's when most people take their summer vacations - just before school starts up again.
Good luck! |

Not a great time for hurricane season - your right in the middle of it. We've always tried to go in November. Temperatures will be in the high 80's - low 90's and very humid. Crowds are always bad unless you are going in the off season. We can't stand waiting in line so make sure you do the fast pass if you go on any of the big rides. |

Well,
Disney In August, is the worst, because the heat, it usually get up to like 101 sometimes. The Crowds are horrible, anytime, we went in JANUARY, and we waited in line for a long long time. And Hurricane season, Is anytime, so be expecting those. But I live in Michigan so it was nice to escape the snow.

well usually during holidays and breaks (summer, spring, winter) is when the crowds are worst, the lines can be up to an hour for one ride.
it will be pretty hot and humid usually around 98...? but they are pretty good at keeping u cool, theres tons of water rides and they have those fans that spray water so you dont die of an over heat.
and about the hurricanes well you never know just pray that they wont come this year and youll be good to go. |

DO NOT come down in August! It's HOT and HUMID! I have a friend that insists on coming down then.....I tried to warn him!
Best times are early March and early December....early December like 1st - 15th are also the cheapest. |

Anytime over the summer it will be busy and crowded. The heat is horrible in the summer there. I wouldn't consider rushing things to get there though. I went in late January going into Feb. and it was beautiful. In the 70's. Oh, and I live in PA. When I went with my family to Disney, it was very very cold and it snowed while we were there. |

August through November is Hurricane season, so i would prepared for the threat of possible storms.
August will be extremeley hot and humid, so be prepared to wear tank tops, shorts and flip flops. The heat can become excruciatingly hot, but an afternoon storm should cool it down a bit. Then it will get hot again. There are plenty of places to go to cool down. Most of the rides are air conditioned or if you're waiting outside, they'll have fans spraying water over you.
The crowds will probably be large since most families go on vacation during August/September. I usually suggest going during the spring or winter when it's less hot.
Have fun! |

No, back when i was in high school i went to disneyworld in august. we get three weeks off for school. the only thing you have to worry about is the humidity. and of course the heat. there will be very little lines because most people are still in school. Boy it was fun being ably to do a ride more than once and not waiting in line for like 20min. oh but be careful of the more popular rides sometimes they have lines in the later afternoon. |

no there isnt going to be one its just winter that days and now its spring i think the temp will be rising in a few days |

The worst time you can go to Disneyland is during summer, go during winter like i did.
There was NO lines, i promise you this. Seriously, forget about any hurricanes or whatever. The crowds are the ones that will kill you, but if you go in Winter. It is SO much more manageable. |

Extrememly hot and humid hurricanes are possible, but usually happen later in the hurrican season. TONS of people. All the last minute tourists before school starts, you can still make it fun though. |

When i went to disney for 2 weeks there wa sone day with rain and i saw a twister, but they r used to it over there it wasnt anything major.
it is going to be HOT, just google the temperatures, when i was queing for rides pple faited, but it got me on the rides faster i guess. just keep hydrated
crowds are a part of disney life, if u dont like them, dont go, it is busy busy busy but thats whats so great about it, the crowds arent miserbal londoners, they are bubbly americans and tourists, crowds are FUN |

we do disney the last week in August just about every year. Its the best time to go cause the Florida schools are back in session. Way less crowds there plus disney usually offers the free disney starting around that time. Weather is still hot but not unbearable. Go, the last week...its good. |

August isn't in the hurricane season, so not likely to be affected. You'll be fine with the weather - but it will be REALLY hot. make sure you drink lots and lots of water.
And yes - it's the summer holidays so it will be really really busy. Both times I have been it has been out of season - February and October, and it's been really busy then, so I can only imagine what it would be like in the holidays.
Have fun! |
