Disneyland Anaheim question?

how bad is the traffic scene at disneyland on a typical weekend? i am weighing possibilities of -
1) staying in a hotel on walking distance from the park - expensive hotels
2) staying a little farther and driving there - time wasted in traffic & parking.

would anybody share their experiences and opinions please?
Additional Details
we will be visiting from chicago.. 3 days in disneyland.

I live about a half of a mile from Disneyland. There are a lot of affordable hotel near by within walking distance. I would pick one that provides free shuttle. After spending 12-14 hours on your feet it is nice to set down.

I have been to several event where I wish Disneyland personnel were in charge of emptying the parking lot. They know what they are doing! Getting in and out is a breeze. Parking is about $10 a day in the parking garage. You still have to shuttle between garage and parks.

Enjoy your trip!

I'm from the area and so, I always parked there. Traffic really isn't so bad as it is in other places.

Stay in a motel not so close to the park, as the rates are much less expensive. Most will offer courtesy transportation to Disneyland. This will save you about 15 bucks a day. I know from seeing the buses go there.

(Been out of the country for the past 18 months.)

If you're from out of town, I would recommend staying closer to the theme park and enjoying your time there thoroughly.

When I went to Disneyland Anaheim traffic was just the typical California traffic. The only thing that slowed my group up was the gates. There are only so many gates open so it takes a little while to file through. Also you have to pay just to park, but I think staying farther away and driving wouldn't waste too much more time and you can't beat the money you save.

Disneyland is not that bad as traffic is concerned

I think it would probably be better to stay further away. you will get to experience the touristic spots of LA...

Staying in Hollywood is a good option, even though, unless you know Hollywood well, going out at night is somewhat sketchy.

here are some good options:

Renaissance Hollywood Hotel
- Very nice, near some shopping [Hollywood and Highland]. Although the price is a little high, but it is worth it.

Magic Castle
- This hotel is a landmark and is secluded from the "streets". The prices are moderate.

Hollywood is about 1 hour away from Disneyland WITH traffic.

Beverly Hills is another good option, although many people believe they will see celebrities, its good if you have deep pockets and want to shop a lot. Its very clean, and safe.

There are a ton of good places to stay.

just a little research will go a long way.

Beverly Hills is a little harder as far as traffic is concerned.

Disneyland is a crowded, hot, expensive park.
It cost 70 dollars for people over the age of 10.

If you go on a Monday or Tuesday, you may get lucky.

parking isnt expensive AT ALL

it is like 8 dollars.

:]

Glad to help.

Stay close. There are cheap hotels within walking distance to Disneyland. Stay to the SE of the east entrance. I've heard parking at Disneyland is expensive, so whatever money you're trying to save on the hotel, you'll probably just spend on parking anyway.

the first question,is are you just visiting disney? if so, then traffic is not that bad if you are from Chicago. however there are plenty of little hotels within walking distance or just a short drive from aneheim.

if you are planning to visit Universal Studios or Six Flags or any other facilities, I would stay closer to the other facilities.

we need more info on what you need...

i suggest staying somewhere else and drive to the parking structure. but it might be a bit busy

Well....you should definitely go with (1) and go with a close hotel i just went to Disneyland not to long ago and getting into Disneyland is the worst! Long,Long lineups but we waited in line about 20-30minute I'd say!

I stayed at the Park Vue Inn. It was cheap and directly across the street from the Disneyland entrance (walking distance of about 5-10 minutes). It was a shorter walk to our hotel than to any of the Disney resorts. The beds were a bit hard, but the room was large and had a fridge. There was a complimentary breakfast and a restaurant next door (possibly an IHOP?). I didn't use the pool at all; it wasn't anything to rave about and I didn't have time. I would definately stay there again to save money.

I just visited Disney in Feb and we stayed at the Howard Johnson's about 1 block from Disney. Great room, rates, close to eating places as well. When I return, I will stay there again as it's very close walking distance.

We stayed in a hotel near it, so it wasn't too too bad

Kevil
the closer the better, other wise youll spend more time parking then having fun.

Obviousman
I always recommend the Candy Cane Inn and the Howard Johnson (HoJo). While some hotels are closer, these two are very close to the front entrance, so you can walk back to the hotel for a swim or a nap in the afternoon. They are a step above the other hotels in the immediate area in terms of rooms, service, pool, and value.

Check out the location below:

Parking can be a real pain. We've taken up to an hour to park at times.

Disneyland hotel seems pretty good it pretty close so is pradise pier (which is the cheapest one) then the Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the dearest but it located in the calfornia adventure park which is opposite disneyland. check this site out.

Janjalla

Parking isn't bad at all, but the enterance will take 5-10 mins of stop and go. I'd go with option 1.

Traffic to Disneyland isn't too bad on the weekend, especially if you're up and about early. There are different entrances to the park: Harbor Blvd and Disneyland Drive. If you do decide to drive, I'd head straight for the parking structure on Disneyland Drive. Though there may be some traffic into the structure, because there's a lot of parking there, traffic moves rather quickly. There's a tram that will take you to the entrance of the parks.

Tip: If you have your tickets before you arrive, you can actually enter the park in Downtown Disney via the Monorail. This is a nice way to bypass the crowds at the main entrance. So when you get off the tram, don't follow the crowd to the entrance, turn right, instead. You'll have to pass a few stores along the way, but it may well save you from the headache of the crowd.

FYI, if you stay at a hotel that is not within walking distance, but within the vicinity, most have shuttle service to the parks.

Emeka Vegas
Stay within walking distance. There are lots of hotels near the park to choose from and the rates are not that expensive if you shop around. Here are a few. http://www.socalthemeparks.com/disneyland-hotels.html
