Do Americans really think that the U.S.A. is the best country in the world?

When you compare it to countries like Canada, Ireland, Japan, S.Korea, Holland and Switzerland.
If so please explain with an intulectual and mature response

ABSOLUTELY! America is the land of the free and the home of the brave, no matter what the liberal media portrays her to be. This nation was raised up by God's Hand to be a light the world and I still believe in the Red, White, and Blue. Even as a Gen X'er.

National pride and patriotism are by no means exclusively American traits.

Most Americans (at least the ones I know) certainly feel that America is the best country in the world...just as most Canadians, Irish, Japanese, Koreans, Dutch, Swiss (and the citizens of every other nation) feel the same way about their country.

There is one important difference...were right!! No...just kidding...LOL!

The difference is this...ask most Americans where they would want to live if they couldn't live in the United States, and you'll hear a really wide variety of responses. But, ask the citizenry of any other country in the world (even ones that openly dislike America) where they would want to live if they had to relocate...and the majority, in my experience, will pick the US.

Why is it when Americans are US-centric...it's perceived as short-sighted and evil. But, when citizens of other countries express similar feelings...they're just displaying National pride??

Except for possibly Canada, could a poor refugee from Eastern Europe become the president of the worlds largest semiconductor company.

Except for possibly Canada, could a weightlifter from Austria become head of it's largest state or province.

And only in the US can a black person be seriously considered for head of state.

In one word OPPORTUNITY, no other country on the planet (including Canada) allows someone who only has drive and ambition, no matter what their status, race, or creed, fulfill their dreams.

Edit:
Don, I think you may have a bit of a reading comprehension problem or possibly have no knowledge of geography. Since when is either Canada, Ireland, Japan, S. Korea, Holland or Switzerland on the African Continent?

BOHO
I am not sure of the best...but it is the best "fit" for me and my family. I have great opportunity and enjoy living out dreams.

I like all those countries you mentioned, but I will never leave the US (except for vacation). This country is so big, you can find anything, any lifestyle, and any group of people you want. We have our problems, but so does every country in the world. I am very proud to be an American, and I do think we are the best. For those who do not like us, then dont accept any aid or protection from us.

charitydowling
YES WE LOVE OUR COUNTRY ISN'T THAT GREAT!!!!

csc2k5
Yes, i believe the U.S. is the best country in the world. If people want to leave who is stopping them? I'm not, if i want to get a job i can, if i want to learn something i can, I'm not controlled by anybody. Again if this place isn't good enough for you then please do us fellow, loyal American citizens a favor and leave.

When most Americans say that they're country is the best, it's kinda like when parents tell other parents that their kids are the best. We don't actually expect the other parents to reply "well, there were these other kids that I met and they seemed better than your kids. Have you met every kid?" See?

katey cares 2
I can only speak for this one "YES".

Stephanie A
I do!

HEARTS AFIRE
I have to answer yes, because I love to travel solo and I don't think that I would be inclined to do that anywhere but here in the US.

Yes, I love traveling and have been to some of the countries you mentioned. But I would still never move out of the U.S. I love how every state offers something different...you can live in California and have the mountains, ocean, city, country...all close by. I love Colorado and the Rocky Mountains and the city of Denver. I live near NYC so I'm used to lots of stores, tons of choices as far as things to do and buy, shows, restaurants, parks, hiking.....everything you could possibly want is within 30 minutes.

Ireland is beautiful....but as far as shopping, activities, events, etc....I would be very bored quickly. The people are much friendlier in Ireland but they don't have the same opportunities Americans do.

I wouldn't say the best , only because the giants, cowboys, and redskins live in it.

I think it's difficult to answer that since most Americans have never lived anywhere else, so have nothing to compare it to. It's like Yankees fans who think the Yankees are the best baseball team in the league. It's national pride and patriotism.

Madge B
americans have no idea and would be too stupid to appreciate it. for a so called 1st world nation they do a really good job at acting like barbarians.

Eddie
No, at least I do not. Where there is one there are more.

LifterSteady
No, not all of us do. Some of us have brains, actually. lol, I know it's hard to believe and all.

Good question ;D (but I'm not American so I can't answer. But from my experience, most of the Americans I know think of their country as the centre of the world.)

our friend Harry K here obviously forgets that most of the African countries got a black man as a head of the country :P
Gosh, some Americans are so self-centered it's sick :/
