Do I need a green card if I'm not permanently moving to the US?

I'm planning on visiting a friend in the US for a couple months, but would probably need to work during that time as I don't have a lot of disposable income. Would I need a green card to work even if I'm not becoming a permanent resident?

To work any "official" job you'll need a green card and a social security number, but you may be able to find odd jobs babysitting, cleaning for people, walking dogs, things like that.

As a Canadian student who goes to school in the US, I've definitely looked into it. If you're only going for a couple months, it would never be worth it to put all the time and money into trying to get one just to have it denied, or possibly not even an answer at all by the time you go.

Most likely you would have only a tourist visa...that doesn't allow you to work legally

nope... wont need a green card but will need a work visa (maybe TN Visa if you are Candian or Mexican) or J Visa for Students... it can be complicated. Check out the BCIS website. www.bcis.gov

Depends on where you are coming from you will never need a green card to visit. If you are from Canada you will need a T-1 visa and any where else I think is a H-1 visa. A work visa is needed to work in the U.S. if not a citizen. Good luck!

Oh yeah you have to be here like 7 years to get a Green card so to all the people telling you just get one, LOL. They have no clue.

no. just a temp pass

You need a visa, but to get that you have to prove that you can support yourself while you are there -- and that you have connections in your home country and plan to return. For permission to work, you need a working visa or a green card. They are not as easy to get as a tourist visa. Limit the amount of time you ask for and you have a better chance of getting the visa.

as far as i know, you do have to have a permanent resident card coz all employers ask for that. and you also need a social security which you cannot get without a permanent resident status or a working visa (permit). you cannot work if you only have a tourist visa. i moved here 3 years ago, and i had all that, and they always ask unless you work underground.

To get in you need a temp pass (vacation or business related), but I believe if you need to obtain a US job then you will need a green card.

dime piece
u probably need a temporary one if they have them im not sure tho

little eccy
Just invent a Social security Number, Employers don't ask for green cards they don't care.
