Do Pennsylvanians commonly refer to Pennsylvania as "The Quaker State"?

In other words, is it a well known moniker with the locals?

I grew up there, and we more used Keystone State, and you see the keystone shape all over the place. Besides, PA is a commonwealth.

nova_queen_28
Nope. PA is the Keystone State.

I doubt it. Most locals never use the "nicknames" of their homes. I have never heard anyone here say they live in "The Hoosier State", and I've only heard of my hometown called "The Orthopedic Capital of the World" to jest at those who take it seriously.

I have never heard anyone call it that. I call it PA.

No, we don't. I usually say "PA" even when I'm talking, but then again, I live in Philly, so it may be different out in Central PA.

lind§ay
We have a Quakertown but i've never heard of the termonology, "Quaker state." It's the Keystone State.

i've heard of it, but i wouldn't say i hear it very often. i'd imagine that most know of it.

kaylee2707
No, I've never heard anyone say that except in grade school history class, and I've lived hear all my life.

While I have Pennsylvania refered to as the Quaker State, it's more common nickname is the Keystone State. "The Keystone State" was what has usually appeared on the bottom of license plates. The keystone is what appears on state route signs and is in the logo for most state agencies.

No. I refer to it as The Key Stone state. I have lived in PA all my life. I refer to my city as a battle field. Too many gangs and killings!!!!

No. If anything, we would refer to it as the Keystone State.

rooster
not in the last 150 years. the state was named after william penn the father of william penn founder of philadelphia.who was a quaker.

Vanessa B
Not really. It's known as the Quaker and Keystone Stae, but locals don't really use those terms.
