It does appear as though most residents of the Phoenix metro area are from other areas. I've lived here most of my life, but came from PA originally. It seems that most of the people here are transplants from Cali or from the mid-west.
Phoenix is a young city that has really boomed in the last 30 years, so its easy to see how most residents are not native Phoenicians. With all the growth and work potential the Valley of the Sun has drawn in residents from many areas. |

One word --weather!
I'm from PA originally then lived in MA shortly and I hate the snow, ice and cold weather.
I've met many people here in Phoenix who are transplants too! |

i was born here but moved alot as a child due to a military father. i've been back here since 92
alot of people move here for the weather. my bf is from chicago originally and two of his sisters live here too. he said they got so sick of the freezing cold weather and having to shovel snow. here they don't have to worry about it and if they start to miss the snow-flagstaff is only a 2 hour drive and has plenty of snow in the winter!! |

I was born and raised in the Phx area. Most people come here for the weather. I have friends that moved here from Chicago, Minnesota, and other places up north. They seem to like the hot weather and the fact you can wear a tanktop 11 months out of the year. |

Phoenix is a transient city. I hate this. My friend is 45 and a native, but one of few. I moved here in the early 80s and there was almost no one here. boy has that changed! People get tired of the tornados, snow, hurricanes, etc. and like the sunshine. Then a bunch of them leave when they realize it will be 110-120 degreesabout 3 months in a row-without any rain whatsoever. This place sucks. Avoid it at all costs. Thanks for your ear. |
