People that are actually from new york don't. I have a Friend from Louisiana and she does. Its not really a part of our geographical vernacular. It's more like you guys or sometimes yous guys (which I hate). Or simply just what's up/goin' on.
That being said some of my black freinds do. So I guess the answer is really yes. |

Nope, not the native ones. |

no- it's a Southern thing. Did you know that the plural of y'all is "all y'all"? It is! I live near Nashville, but I'm originally from San Francisco- we say "you guys" also, like northerners! |

Usually not, atleast not in my family. We usually say you all, you guys, and sometimes the ones with the heavy accents will say "yous" |

As in "yall come back soon"???
I'm from NY and don't say that. I say "you guys". |

?

Actually in some parts where the feel is more "inner city", I would hear "what up Yo!"
Though back in the days....hip-hop artists would go "yes, yes, y'all...to da beat y'all" |

The wonderful thing about New York is that we are a melting pot in the truest sense of the term -- people come here from the four corners of the earth, including those corners where people say "y'all!"
I have a number of friends in the City from Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana . . . and they ALL say y'all. When I'm around them, I do too!
So the answer to your question is YES, some New Yorkers do indeed say y'all. Not all of us; but then, we don't all speak the same language at all. It's part of the wonderful diversity that makes New York so unique. |

Nope. Not the people actually from NY. People whose families moved to NY from other places do. But different groups from different neighborhoods have different sayings. Go figure. |

Blacks and some hispanics do, but most white new yorkers dont. |

You know what? Some native New Yorkers, even without strong southern roots, actually do that. I know I've occasionally been guilty of it, and I've lived in New York all my life. Can't think of where this comes from, but I do believe it's used somewhat frequently in hip-hop, which is quite popular around here. I'm personally not a big fan, but I hear "y'all" enough such that I end up saying it once in a while. In Queens, we hear everything from everyone, regardless of race or ethnicity.
Then again, I've visited the south many times. I've been known to mindlessly throw in other regional dialect elements at times, such as an occasional hint of a strong "oo" instead of "ou" from being a hockey fan and being a recent visitor to western Canada for a total of about two weeks last summer. |
