The accent in Houston is really more of a Texas Draw which is a bit different than what you may hear in places like Atlanta. Some Houstonians do have a Texas Draw and some do not. Houston is such a large city that there are so many different influences on the accent. One word you will hear regardless if the Houstonian has a Texas Draw or not is the word "ya'll" as in a contraction for "you all". Every person who moves to Houston will pick it up eventually. |

Houstonians don't have much of an accent at all, largely due to the influx of other cultures here. On the other hand, the state of Texas has many regional accents. |

I don`t think many people in houston have much of an
accent but most people in houston aren`t originally from
texas . Myself included. People come here for jobs and
most end up staying. If you get out the city you`ll notice the accent more.
One odd thing about Houston though no matter where you`re
from some things will slip into your everyday speech.
Everyone says "y`all " and its cool |

It depends on family background. The Deep South has a few distinguishable and potentially heavy accents. Country Texans do not sound like folks from Georgia or the Carolinas. It is distinctive. And not everyone has an accent. You will find examples of all three (none, a little, a lot) here. |

ive been raised here and louisiana and i dont consider myself to have a southern accent yet when i travel everyone considers my accent to be slightly country. most people dont know they have an accent until they are around people who arent from houston. we get so used to hearng one another that we dont catch it |

Hi!
I live outside houston, and I am so tired of people thinking that texas is a bunch of cowboys & deserts. Its soooo NOT! Its as normal as anywhere - sure, so parts of Texas are a little dry (wink wink) but that doesnt conclude that we talk like hillbillies. So to answer your Question, No, alot of people dont talk like that. |

Houston is very huge and every one talks different because everyone is from different places, But I was born and raised in Houston and I am Southern and Country and sound every bit of it. |

That's so funny.....do you have a strong annoying northern accent? Although I haven't spent time in Houston, I lived in TX for 2 years.......Most Texans I know have a slight accent. But I have southern ears so the accents I heard in TX were nothing compared to mine. lol |

We do but it's very minimal. Not like a Boston accent. Simple things like the use of the word y'all instead of all of you, and the pronounciation of the word Route. (We say ~root) |
