Do you leave a tip for the maid when you stay in a hotel? (Anywhere in the United States)?

Yes, at least one dollar or at least 10% of the hotel cost (15% is nice). Leave it on the pillow when you leave the room.

Silver
Yep. A couple of bucks a day. I just feel like they work damn hard for not a heck of alot of reward...

Alexandgus
Yes. I always leave a tip for the maid. If she is good, I leave five dollars per day. If she isn't good, I leave a couple dollars anyway.

Yes. I do. Something small like $5.00. It maybe more or less depending on how long you stay. They provide you with a service. So give them something to show that you appreciate it, even if you didn't.

yeah

i would. about 20.00, they go eat a meal and leave a nice tip, and the waiter don't even do the cooking, least the maid do keep the room clean and that ant no easy job.

Peach
Yes. I leave $2 a day. It's a hard job and the pay is terrible. They will appreciate it.

Sometimes when they've done something extraordinary or beyond the call in getting something done for me, especially late at night. Normally no because I'm cheap.

Hillbilly
no way.I'm not cheap, but i have never even seen anyone ever do this.

Fulcrum777
Absolutely, a couple of dollars (depending on the cost of the room) on the pillow.

jymssn
A lot depends on the quality of the hotel. High quality hotels expect it. Whereas a lower price hotel is at your discretion based on length of stay and how well the room is taken care of in your abscence.

yes my husband and I do just a small amount $5.00 or so

marie
anything from $3 to $5. Each night, not at the end of your stay, because you don't know the maid's shifts, their week could start anywhere.

Yes...it will depend on the quality of the room.

$2 per day in a moderate price hotel. $5 per day in a high end hotel. Do not wait until check out because the maids schedule can change and they might not get the same room day after day.

Tips should be left on the pillow.

Housekeepers clean approximately 14 to 18 hotels rooms per day. I use to work at hotels and their work is very hard and physical. Housekeepers really appreciate the tips more so than food servers who take it for granted. They make very little money compared to the price of the room that you pay.
