Do you like Hawaii? |
Everyone likes Hawaii so much; do you believe that I don’t like living here? I wish I could move away to another state where the cost of living is more affordable, but my husband and I have our career foundation built here. Many people whom I know on this island really aren’t as aloha as it seems to the rest of the world….no offense, this is just coming from my perspective and experience. |

I'm with you on your sentiments. It's getting too expensive and the salaries aren't getting high enough to compensate. Plus the traffic is constantly getting worse, people not as nice to fellow locals as to tourists, etc. |

paradise has a high price - don't feel like your he only one hurting - just look around how many homes have 2-3 families living in 1 house |

I can totally sympathize with you! I love vacationing in Hawaii (I've been there five times). It is so beautiful! But being from the Midwest, I could never live there. Where I live a $700K home is mansion and milk is only $2. I could not get used to prices in Hawaii no matter how nice the weather. I would much rather put up with the short lived cold spell in the winter. |

I love to visit it, but a friend of mine who lived there for a while complained of getting "rock fever". I am in to theater and museums and I am probably one of the few tourists who visited the museum on Oahu, I found the top hats, etc, made of feathers, very interesting, but it does not compare to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. |

I can't imagine living anywhere else......
Local people are a friendly bunch in general.....perhaps it's just the bunch that you know that are keeping you from seeing the true local friendly attitude. |

Could you find a state where you already have friends/family to move to?
A lady & her husband & child that I sometimes Nanny for returned to the states in order to afford a nice size house & afford life in general.
She & her husband moved here to Ocala, Florida because they already had some friends here. They don't regret the move at all. The climate still fairly mild and they didn't want to go back up to Indiana where he's from--too cold. He runs a Limo Service and she is a Nurse. |

ok first off, that sugarbear lady who left u a comment , dont believe her, shes just being bitter because people didnt like her or shes probably racist, almost every someone time asks about hawaii there she is saying how much she hated it and that the people are were mean to her or rude. im not from hawaii, im from texas, and i can tell u that everyone i have met here are really nice sure it may be a little more expensive, but you know what? you just have to go to the right places. of course if youre in Ala Moana Center the food is expensive but because of the tourists. but thats it. buying, renting is expensive. but clothes and food is i think the same to me. you just have to shop smart. |

I in fact love Hawaii!! I have visited the island of Oahu six times, and am planning a seventh visit!
My husband and I plan on retiring there in a few more years. We are fed up with the weather in Michigan (especially the winter months).
We know that alot of things are more expensive in Hawaii than here on the mainland, but to us, the people are awhole lot friendlier in Hawaii!
We have even found a church that is of our faith in Hawaii, and we have friends who live around Honolulu/ and other areas. |

I can see your point, it is great for a vacation but sure is expensive. I just went to Maui, it was fun but I thought to myself that it is expensive, and I live in CA! People always think they want to live here but it is very expensive too! |

I have heard ppl from Hawaii complaining that they feel kind of trapped being on an island and that it feels strange driving around a relatively small piece of land and feeling isolated from the rest of the world. OTOH, I know ppl in NYC who have never left the tri-state area (NY, NJ and CT) and other ppl who have never left their home state. Perhaps there are other issues involved other than the state you're living in-- work stress, friction in a relationship, etc. Consider talking with your minister or priest (if you go to church), seeing a psychiatrist (this is not meant as a "punishment" rather someone who is a neutral observer and might see things that you don't see) and maybe you can take some time off each week just to relax and not worry about work (easier said than done). |

I understand what you are going through. We lasted 3 years in Hawaii b/c my husband being in the Military, we had to live there for awhile & I HATED IT. It's true about what you said how people really aren't as "aloha" as it seems to the rest of the world. The cost didn't really affect us since we are well off, but other things I didn't like about that place is the fact that there are not enough opportunities for career & success, that island is so small & isolated. We ran out of things to do after the first month. Seriously, how many times do you gotta go up to North Shore? or how many times do you go to Ala Moana or Waikiki? it got boring! same ol' crap every week. Hawaii does NOT have what the Mainland has.
We don't live there no more & I'm glad, we are back on the Mainland now & feels good to be home. My advice is: If your NOT happy there, I urge you to make changes. I understand you said you have your career foundation built there, but what good would it do since you don't even enjoy it or are happy there anyway? Why not move to a place that will make you happy? You can always continue with career foundation & most likely, a better one, more than what Hawaii has to offer. If it means moving out of state, out of Hawaii, then you should go ahead & do that. Life is just way too short to be settling for what you got. I happen to believe that if your not happy with something in your life, then you should do something about it b/c your lifetime should be based on happiness & your life is usually what you make of it. Talk to your husband & see what he says.
GOOD LUCK!
P.S.
CAROLINA D obviously does NOT know what she's talking about. You can't compare "visiting" from "living in Hawaii". Besides, she lives in TEXAS, so what does she know??? She's NEVER lived in Hawaii before, she stated she only "visited", seriously....I don't understand why some "tourist" think they know every little detail about Hawaii lifestyle & it's people when they never even experienced living there. What a moron. All i gotta say to her is: PIPE DOWN, everyone is entitled to an opinion & what do you know about Hawaii & it's people?? YOU NEVER LIVED THERE!!!! |

I actually have a couple of friends and family there, like you they don't really enjoy it and are hoping to move back to the mainland. When I went to visit though, I really enjoyed the islands of Oahu and Kauai, but wasn't such a big fan of Maui. I tend to like less tourisity places. |
