I love Texas. Born and raised. I have been in The Houston area 5 years now. Once you get used to the humidity, Houston is a wonderful place with so much to do for all. You name it, Houston has it. It was also just won the best place to work and play for 2008 by Kiplinger. |

Yes, I like both Texas and Houston.
Your friends must not have lived here. Currently raining and 83 degrees at 5PM. So, no it isn't true. While it does get hot here, we have beautiful springs, winters, and autumns. |

Houston is a big, exciting city with everything imaginable activity available to you. Jobs galore, low cost of living. Just live close to where you work because the commute can be long, if not. I agee with William K, we have wonderful springs, autumns and winters here---all very mild. June, July, and August are best saved for the tons of indoor events in Houston. |

I have been to Houston and my brother lives in Houston. I love it.
I like there malls, Dave & Buster's & everything.
There is nothing I dislike at the moment.
I actually went there for a week back in June 08. |

Houston SUCKS. Traffic sucks, the weather sucks, pollution sucks. The only thing to do in Houston is eat out and shop, if that's your thing, it is perfect for you.
I am a native Houstonian, and I've always hated it here. Good think I am finally getting the heck out of dodge. |

Texas I love
Houston...ugh! spent the first 19 yrs of my life there and once I moved out, you can't get me to move back, though I do frequently visit there for shopping and family. It's not that bad once you get used to it, I just liked smaller towns and the laid back way of life rather than the hussle and bussle of a big city. |

Texas and Houston are ok. I lived there until I was 18 and then I moved to Northern California for college. I would never, ever live in Houston again after living here. compared to CA, I guess it could be seen as a living hell. you can hardly enjoy the outdoors because it's so hot and you get eaten by mosquitoes, hurricane season lasts for way too long, and funnel clouds forming above your house just about every time there's a storm is really scary. the freeways are awful in Houston, too. people are so mean! it's like they go out of their way not to let you on the freeway. we may drive fast here in CA, but I think drivers here are, on the whole, better than Houston drivers. there's not much to do in Houston either. when I lived there, my friends and I spent most of our time at the movies, the mall, someone's house if they had a pool, or walmart if it was the middle of the night and we needed something to do. other than that, it was pretty boring. I also hated the lack of diversity in my area. I lived in the suburbs south of downtown, so maybe it's better elsewhere? sadly, my former little community is now crowded and cramped. there's so much traffic, too! it takes forever to drive 5 miles to a restaurant for dinner now! on the plus side, people in Texas are so friendly! also, the pride Texans show for their state is really great. and where I lived, the schools were all pretty good and they performed well, which is nice if you have kids. |

i've lived in a small town right north of houston all my life and personally, i love it.
every big city has some bad parts to it, honestly. houston has some unsafe areas but also has great shopping, night life, restaurants, concert venues, and is home to the number one cancer center in america. there are definitely some jewels in the city and i look forward to going downtown as much as i can.
sure, it's a little humid but i'm used to it. it helps with my dry skin, so hey. i love warm weather and texas definitely supplies that.
i've never met nicer people than in texas. when i went to california, the attitude seemed completely different. not to mention, compared to the rest of the country's real estate, you get a nicer house for less money.
the traffic is pretty bad, but that's the only thing i can really think of.
.. i'm curious as to what part of houston your friend was from. |

If you live in Houston all you need is acess to a pool. When it gets hot, you'll have it made. You have to go out and find stuff to do, it doesn't come to you. There's always something to do and someplace new to go. Lots of stuff is free in the inner city. June, July, August are very hot and humid. After that, the weather is still humid, but you can go out and ride a bike or take a hike. Lots of trails in the suburbs. There are a lot of ghetto areas, like everywhere else. But those parts of town are so easily avoided. I've lived here all my life and I still love it and I'm still experiencing new things. |
