Of course not, passports are only for exiting/entering this and other countries.
However, word on the street is they may soon require passports for travel inside the U.S. as well.

You do not need a passport to travel within the US or US Territories (Puerto Rico & the US Virgin Islands). You do to go to ANY OTHER COUNTRY.

No. They're in the same country. Directly from the US, you would need a passport to go to Canada or Mexico (and anywhere overseas, of course).

No, you only need a passport when traveling outside of the U.S. as long as you stay in the 50 states your fine with no passport.

MAYBE! ARE YOU A US CITIZEN? If you are traveling between NJ and CA and you are from another country....YES, you will need your passport to board a plane. Otherwise, no. Most of the previous answer only apply if you're a US citizen.
